sunnyone, this really is not the place to get into a debate as to who 'deserves' CWP's. If you want to discuss policy, you would be best to start a thread in DT.

I thought that getting free prescriptions worked on the same sort of rules as CWP (ie. only income based benefits qualifying), so I think it is interesting that you qualify for one but not the other. I would have thought that getting free prescriptions or not would follow the same rules for IVB, IB and ESA (contributions versions) as aren't these supposed to be basically the same thing?

Whenever I think that I sort of understand the logic behind the welfare system I hear of a case that makes me feel all confused again!

You can receive help with healthcare costs through the HC1 scheme, by virtue of being on a low income.

So is the definition of a low income with regard to healthcare costs higher than the cut off levels that would give income support top ups (eg. for disability) on top of contributions benefits?

Yes, I don't know what the levels are, but they are higher than income based benefit levels and I think (though I'm not sure) that some outgoings are also taken into account.

As long as you are on IB ESA, you will qualify.

We have my CBIVB, his CBESA (support group) and a very small pension and child/my disabled tax credits only and we didnt ask for free prescriptions, it was sent to us because of our low income yet we dont recieve CWPs, how can that be right?

You would qualify for help with health costs through your tax credits award.
