Mmm… In ‘responding to a question asked’ we sometimes get our heads bitten off.

When the victim of a scam, yes, things hurt at times. Is this news to anybody? I think not.

What is to be done about it?

To me, scammers having card processing facilities is what is wrong and what needs to be targeted for the good of everybody now and for the future to try and stop this happening over and over again like it does at the moment. I’ve said this more than once on this thread, with some support expressed.

If you seriously feel you’re going the right route by stroking each others’ brows, talking about Watchdog, and sympathising with each other, then great, that’s what you feel is right for you

When a newbie comes on here and says at #58:
were due to emigrate in May but that's now looking unlikely and we will be losing more money as we have deposits for things… …We are not normally gullible but really needed a quick sale - feel really stupid now…
and then gets a strop on when advice and help is given it’s a great shame as MSE is a veritable fount of information when used sensibly. Using an internet forum has its risks and one of those is you sometimes won’t necessarily like what you get back. You have to grow a thicker skin or not indulge.

CathP, from your original post I gathered, perhaps wrongly, that you’d proceeded in a somewhat desperate manner. If one particular word of mine sets you off, I’m sorry, I really am, but that’s over sensitivity.

I suspect the issue here is that you’re hurting badly from the wounds that SYH4Free have inflicted on you. It’s an experience that will have taught you something in life, and you’ve kindly come on here (with of course the cloak of anonymity that we all have) to contribute your experience and findings.

One thing you have unfortunately done in your postings is to make your identity 100% clear to SYH4Free personnel should they choose to read here, post here, or indeed PM you.

Any poster here, feel free to attack me if it makes you feel any better, but you’re wasting your ammunition on the wrong target.
  • Moneysaving site lets just remember what it's for everyone??!!

Personal attacks and unuseful comments about victims being scammed is unnecessary!

Anyway back to the point I actually think that all these references to SYH4FREE is Helping because this thread is nearing the top of google!

Great news as hopefully this thread will actually help people save ( or keep in this case ) money!

They get away with it because people are prepared to send £1000 to a stranger from a company with no history. No estate agent takes up front fees. Companies like this only thrive because there seems to be an endless supply of gullible people with money in their pockets.
I am sorry if this sounds harsh, I do sympathise with those who have been conned but in the end we all have to take some responsibility for our actions, or scammers like this will just keep on going.

Wish I hadn't asked that now!! (I wasn't trying to prompt debate about whether people have been guillible or not! Which probably isn't very helpful at this time!)

What I was trying to say is, is what this company are doing strictly legal?? I mean, if their 'buyers' are fictitous, how can it be legal??

Sorry, I was not trying to rub salt into any wounds, just responding to a question asked.

With all due respect ILW, I think either you have mis-interpreted what I was asking, or I phrased it badly. What i was trying to get at, was whether there was any legal challenge against how they operate, hence the second part of the section of my post you are quoting was the part which contained the question mark (as opposed to the red part- as highlighted by you- which was not the actual question):

What I don't get is how they are getting away with this in the first place!! Is what they are doing actually legal????

Just wanted to clarify that I in no way intended to start a debate as to whether people are being desperate or guillible! I can't see how that would help anyone- what people need is advice and SUPPORT on how to deal with this if they have been affected. Sometimes just talking about things and feeling you're not alone can make all the difference.

All I was trying to do was see if anyone could comment on the legalities of this operation?

Because people who’ve lost money to them aren’t attacking the core activity that enables their scam.

It’s taking money under false pretences.

People have been given advice and support on how to deal with this. Unfortunately some posters, especially newbies, are being waaay too precious. Good clear advice has been given many pages earlier by various time-served MSEers, and evidently quite a few recent posters haven’t even got round to reading this thread through.

By all means lick your wounds and share experiences, but NVDA is what’s needed at the end of the day.
  • I am sorry, but I have not read the complete thread of this topic. I can confirm that I have spoken to someone that paid the requested 1% from this particular company and the cash buyer dissapeared and they lost their money. When I heard this I decided to do a google search on the company and came accross this thread. There are many other Quick Sale companies out there and they will not ask you to pay a penny either before, during or after the purchase of your property.

If you read the whole of this, and other similar MSE scam threads, you’ll see that companies like this thrive on people’s needs.

One of those needs in this case most definitely is ‘desperation to sell’. So pray tell what made you do business with them?

If you’re extremely offended at my ‘remarks’ I can only suggest you stay off internet forums. You have certainly ‘got ME all wrong’.

Well good luck with that. Don’t hold your breath!
I do think you are making assumptions here. I am certainly not desperate either, I have inherited a house in a better area, am not in any financial difficulties and just want to sell my current house quickly so I can move. I don't want to leave my house empty and as we all know, it can take months, maybe years, for any sale to go through at a reasonable price. SYH4free offers a reasonable price which is why we go through with it. Call me gullible, but it seemed the perfect answer.

You don't have to explain yourself Cazzy, it's nothing to do with anybody else what situation you are/were in. We have come on this site in an effort to warn other people about the way in which SYH4F operate, if it works then great, if it doesn't then so be it. We are not posting on here to try and get some kind of miraculous resolve, it's about trying to assist people and if the so called "expert" can't see that then that is his/her issue not ours. Its best to ignore the negativity.

Thanks for this - just another confirmation that SYH4Free are scammers and hopefully this will help others that are approached to steer clear!!
