Slosh a decent dollop of white wine into a saucepan, peel and slice and poach until you can run a knife through them about 10 minutes at the most, drizzle some chocolate over them when dished up Mmmm gorgeous0

I like them paoiched in red wine, with spices like star anise, cloves and a little cinnamon, or a very small bit of ginger and some sugar. I peal them, and poach them slowly over a longish time...no where near disintergrating, but very soft so that they hold shape but can be eaten with a sppon. certainly more than ten mins the way I do them
But I think all the recipes above sound yummy.

No wine in this house but have grape juice or apple juice. Wonder if either of those will work?0 -

I halve them, put them in a pyrex dish, add a spoon of honey, brown sugar and a bit of cinnamon. Baste them as they cook and they are lovely.0

lots of grown up pear recipes here - we have a more nursery pudding of over-ripe pears peeled and chopped, with chocolate blancmange over them:) Really yummy!

My parents' pear tree is aching with fruit, I plan to get the ladder out and pick what I can tomorrow before nature gets to them. We'll eat and give away the best of them, but what can we do with the rest? (No plans to make cider btw). The pears look like this, not sure quite what they are suited for:
