    Thanks for that pigpen - i did wonder if i could make into cake of some kind? Perhaps take for the journey if i dont tell the kids whats in them (they dont like them hence the bowl full i have left!)

    There are a number of recipes online for cakes where you add fruit puree in, they usually have less fat and sugar than normal as the fruit adds sweetness, flavour and moisture.

    Just cook down the pears to a puree and use any recipe for pear or apple puree and it will be fine.

    chop them with some ginger into a scone mixture before baking - loverrrly :)

    I like my pears cooked - the heat intensifies the flavour. They go particularly well with chocolate - just stick a square or two on top before putting into oven.

    And lovely with mincemeat too - layer the pear with a tablespoon of it on top and an oaty biscuit or ground almonds crumbled on top of that, bung in oven, & when warm, smother with ice-cream or custard - all makes an easy-peasy pudding. :)
