A few years back I was searching the internet for recipes using pears and I came across this recipe for Pear and Lemon Jam. http://www.cottagesmallholder.com/pear-and-lemon-jam-recipe-93/ It's a lovely jam (much nicer than it sounds) and ends up a lovely pink colour when it's ready. I now make it every September when the pears are ripe."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Can you sell them to a local shop/greengrocer (assuming you've already kindly given some away to neighbours)? I second the pear and parsnip soup idea!0

Hi VfM4meplse - hope you are well.
. You will be quite proud of me, not so long ago I bought 20 huge and perfect red peppers, whoopsied down to just 5p each at Asda. I roasted them with garlic and then they hit the stockpot to make a gallon of soup which of course was duly frozen. I was going to stew a load of the pears down and freeze, but the jam recipe sounds really good.

They're nice sliced in a salad with parma ham or bacon, blue cheese (maybe stilton or dolcelatte) and maybe walnuts or a honeyed dressing. Mmm!0

Small hard pears are excellent for pickling - a great treat for cold meats and salads and also make good presents.
Delia's recipe is good and as always very reliable:

Use up the bruised ones straight away, but the ones with no bruises can be wrapped inn tissue and kept in the salad drawer for a good couple of months.0
