I like to dice a pear and add it to my porridge with a psinkle of ginger and cinnamon.
Also, stew some pears with ground ginger and some sultanas/raisins and use it to make a crumble..........THE best crumble ever!!!
I love the fact that pears don't turn to mush when you cook them!0 -
Process/stew/freeze as many as you can. Get your friends round for a 'session' and they get free pear stew in exchange for helping.
Then make some pear cider/wine :P0 -
I've popped over from the MFW board for some help from you lovely old stylers! I have a bowl full of overripe pears which I want to save from the bin. There are more than I could possibly eat before they go nasty.

Does anyone have a recipe for cooking pears? I've got 6 to cook and have never tried before. They're an old variety (Worcester, I think).
Thanks!0 -
I have Poached Pears & Butterscotch Recipe .
2 pears
2 tsp Sugar
2 lemon zest strips (no pith)
For the sauce
25g low fat spread
25g soft brown sugar
15g low fat soft cheese
Peel the pears, leaving the stalk in place and cut a thin slice frrom the bottom so they stand upright. Place the sugar in a small lidded pan big enough to hold both pears with 200ml of water and the lemon zest. Bring to the boil and stir to dissolve the sugar. Add the pears, cover and simmer gently for about 10 minutes or until soft. Remove from heat.
In another pan, melt the low fat spread with the brown sugar and let it boil for 1 minute Remove from the heat and whisk in the soft cheese.
Drain the pears, discarding the juice & serve with sauce drizzled over.
I've never tried it though.. as I don't like pears (a neighbour gave me recipe with some pears from her garden!) I made chutney with them...0 -
I have been poaching pears in the juice from tins of Co-op peaches which were on sale for 22p in my local as a discontinued line. I add fresh vanilla seeds and serve with soy creme and a little milk chocolate sauce.0
