Hi, my sons phone ended up with him in a stream. Took everything out and left it in airing cupboard for day or so. Phone is all working except no sound - which is pretty important for a phone!! Music showing that it is playing on screen but no sound. Any clues? Could it still be drying out - it was damaged on Wed....

have you tried the headset that came in the box?

if that works, then the speaker will need replacing however SE WILL NOT repair the phone due to the water damage so you will have to take it to an independant shop to get it replaced.

Take as much of it apart as you can, I.e covers off and battery and back off it and leave it in an airing cupboard, I've had lots of washing machine moments with phones, sometimes they jump back to life and sometimes they die, but at least they are sparkling like new !

NO!!!! Slow drying just allows the acid in the washing powder to do more damage

The phone must be purged with an inert liquid, if you don’t have access to the correct chemicals, low VOC cellulose paint thinners will do, strip the phone down to the main board and submerge in the thinners, make sure all rubber components and speakers/mics are removed, ideally use a vibro bath, at least give it a good swish, then dry with hot air (normal hair dryer on low will do) then re assemble and if necessary re-flash. If done correctly you should get about a 70% success rate. If it fails the next stage is component level, in which case call a professional.

A mate of mine dropped his mobile in the toilet as he was taking off his overalls and he managed to fish it out quickly and dried it out on the radiator with no problems, don't know how bad it is in a wash cycle.

Tip is if your mobile gets wet do not try and turn it on as this will fry the board of the phone, put it on a radiator or some where warm to dry out completely before trying to turn on

I did exactly the same thing with my Samsung D900, only had it a few weeks,

As fixaphone said the best thing to do is take it apart as far as possible and then drop it into some De-ionised water (from Halfords £1.59). Leave it over night.

Take out and leave it to dry properly (one week on radiator was not long enough with me. Mine came back to life after one month)
I think my monitor's running out of ink....
  • My son came home today dripping wet and said he'd dropped his phone in the Lake....suspect he threw himself in and forgot it was in his pocket! Anyway I now have a Sony Erricson W660i which I have taken the memory and sim card out of. Orange have quoted me £70 for a replacement (im on a 18month contract.....and no....I havent insured it as I couldnt afford it at the time.....very silly in retrospect) Anyone any fool proof ways of removing moisture??

    Hi Lorraine,

I always put wet phones and Sim cards in the airing cupboard for a few days, Im sure ive read that those little packets that you get in shoe boxes, are good for getting rid of moisture too
