As a thought, would it be worth my while to claim on my contents insurance?0
-
Probably not - I've heard of it being classed as 'accidental' damage, and as such would require the accidental addition to the standard policy. Other state it may need to be a specified item and named on the policy if worth more than £100 - whilst the best excuse of all, mobile phones are NOT covered when outwith the insured address!
Either way, you won't know until you ask - but remember they report all claims and potential claims to the Insurer's database, and you'll need to report your claim to any subsequent insurer, which may inflate premiums down the line.0 -
I have dried out the phone and it is switching on but the screen is not working. I don't have insurance and the manufacturer's warranty doesn't cover this, does anyone have an idea of how much this is likely to cost to repair????0

If I had a quid for everytime this happened to one of mine, I'd be rich. You'd have to pay whatever your SP's charges are. Ours are £55 + VATMortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0

Eeeeuuuuugggghhhhhh!!!
Sorry, but I would just sell it on ebay once you have it fixed!0 -
I dropped mine down the loo, it will work you just have to stop trying to switch it on, thats when you do the damage. Take it apart the best you can and then put it somewhere to dry out completely for about 3 days.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0

Hi
My girlfriend accidently (obviously) put her new mobile phone in the washing machine . We've dried it out but it still doesn't seem to work.
Anyone know the cheapest, most efficient method of getting it repaired? She does not unfortunately have insurance and annoyingly renewed her contract for 18 months just before the washing machine incident.
Grateful for any advice0 -
Take it to carphonewarehouse for a quote - it will probably cost more than what the phone is worth - especially its going to be obvious its water damaged - and might not even work again.
If I had a spare battery for it (like you would) for the phone, might try that. But sorry it wont be cheap to fix.
Or you can contact the manufacturer to see what they would charge.
Or ask the network for a cheap refurbished phone which they will charge you but not as much as for a brand new one.0 -
Take it to an independent phone shop and ask them to look at it, you're more likely to get an economic repair there. But water damage like this is usually terminal because the circuit board oxidises even after you've apparently dried it out. Battery will be knackered too most likely.
Unless it's an expensive phone it may not be worth it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
you could just take out insurance now and then claim accidental damage
claim on the house insurance
obviously the top one is not recomended as i believe its illegal0
