I think you may have just accidentally 'outed' DKLS.DVardysShadow wrote: »That is only acceptable if you have a pact where he will let you dance on his grave only if you will dance on his.

Why not go with him for moral support? Poor bloke its not nice losing someone you were close to even if you haven't seen them in years.0

ok I have to admit I have not read all of this thread, and can sympathise with the money aspect of him having to make a long drive with worries over petrol but...we all have to accept the our partners had a life before us, and that as well as being your husband he is a seperate person with his own feelings. Why should he have to explain to you why he wants to pay his last respects to someone who was important to him?

If you had read the thread, you might not have needed to ask that question.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
deebee - you sound like a lovely person! and your OH sounds like a lovely man too!
I think I understand now why your OH will be gone two days - if the funeral is anything like welsh valleys ones he will probably want to go to the viewing, then pay his respects to her parents. then as its his home town he will want to see his family and close friends. he probably wont want to drive straight home immediately after the funeral either - here in the valleys the 'afterwards' or wake can take some time as people gather and remember the deceased, perhaps its like that where he lived?
Goodness has its reward - stick the most horrible awful thing you can find on ebay - and i bet someone will pay megabucks for it!0 -
I can think of a couple of people whose funerals I would attend where (secretly) I would be there just to make sure the beggars are really dead.
But there are few reasons as good as I think the OP's husband has for going to this funeral. It's worth a couple of days.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Tell him no.xxdeebeexx wrote: »One of my husbands ex girlfriends has sadly died from cancer. They haven't seen each other or spoken in nearly 25 years as their lives took different directions and they drifted appart.
However , my husband is very keen to go to her funeral and I don't know what to think!
If he went, it would be a 4 hour drive in each direction and he would take 2 days off work.
He only gets paid for when he works so, it would mean our family having to manage on less money for next week, plus the petrol costs.
I can't understand why he feels the need to go. I can't talk to him about it at the moment as I'm not sure what I really feel about it...
I would be interested in your comments/ thoughts
