Is that comment directed at me?

As many of you pointed out, people can live in our hearts for ever, and, that’s where she is.

I realise what a special person I have married and how many friends he has missed out on by moving away. I’m glad I waited before talking to him.

I have some beautiful pink roses in the garden (even after that awful frost the other night) and I will arrange them and pop them along side the sandwiches and flask of tea. In the meantime the children and I will have a hunt round the house to see what we can put on Ebay.

    xxooxx

Your post brought tears to my eyes several times.

I'm sure you're a lovely, special family. I married a very special man too. :)

xxdeebeeexx, what a lovely post. It brought a tear to my eye. You are clearly a lovely person in a loving and supportive marriage. I wish you and your OH and all the best xoxo

He sounds extremely self indulgent to me, and in my opinion he is lucky to have such a generous natured wife. Let`s hope that if she ever needs a few days away for some reason which is important to her that he will be as understanding and generous.

And I'm sure he would! I agree with belfastgirl23's post below - relationships are all about give and take, and this is a beautiful example of that.
I think you're completely wrong here. Assuming he is basically a good husband and father who most of the time puts his family first, I think it's fine for him to sometimes think about what he needs too. There are numerous threads here where people have given up all vestiges of themselves to their family life and are in despair because of it. This is something he feels he needs to do. To me it says something very nice about him actually, that he is a caring person, and in the OPs position, him being that kind of caring person is what would make him attractive to me.

Sometimes families make sacrifices for each other. That's fair enough in my book. It's not that his kids are going to starve as a result of this.

Incidentally, I am also Irish and funerals here are more than just the service and burial/cremation. Wakes can often go on all day and night; it is a lovely way to celebrate the life of a person and support their family. :A

Well I don`t want this to turn into an ongoing wrangle, not least because the last thing I would want to do is to upset the OP (who reminds me of someone who was very close to me, and was also a very special person) so I will make this my last comment on this thread.

I am afraid I don`t find it very lovely or beautiful to leave someone short of money to go away to a funeral for 2 days, but then I didn`t realise that it was going to be an Irish wake!

some of you are slating this man and calling him selfish! we dont know that do we? he may well sacrifice something every week which we dont know about - and the OP may well want to do something which leaves the family finances cash strapped - but by the sounds of her OH - I bet he would support her and just bite the bullet.
If not - OP could put the contents of HIS wardrobe on ebay - would that satisfy you? (not suggesting you do this OP!!)

I spent a while this morning adding up my vouchers and coupons and discovered that I ha £53 of Nectar points, £40+ of Tesco points, £24 of luncheon vouchers (pinecone) plus Amazon gift codes (from lightspeed) and a free rental at Blockbusters. We are certainly not going to starve. The children have found some things to list on Ebay and we will put those on over the weekend.

OH was out until early afternoon (he works nights). When he came back he told me that he had had the car serviced! He had taken the car to a friend, who’s a mechanic, and offered to ‘clear his overgrown garden ‘in exchange for a service. Job done!

He then explained that he has arranged to work on Sunday because he didn’t want us to go short next week and hoped that I didn’t mind!

I am now, quite relaxed about the funeral trip but sorry that he has lost a dear friend. I am also very relieved that I decided to post on here before ‘kicking off’.

Thank you all for your comments, support and suggestions…..

You sound like a great couple bring up great kids. You made me think of my Mum and dad when I was little.

Not that I was a great kid - #I was a total rip.

Lovely post deebee, and I hope that your husband realises just what a special person he has married!

I think he does, he clearly wasn't scared to tell her how he felt and we often know that is harder for the guys usually, he knew she'd understand...he seems a lovely genuine heartfelt person. And so does Deebee!!! :T
