This is all well and good, but will the extortionate connection charge be dropped soon anyway? I am moving to a house which apparently had a Tiscali line until 3 months ago, so am potentially going to be stung for the £125. In the Guardian last Saturday a BT spokesman said ""Where a customer is returning to join BT from a local loop unbundled competitor, our systems default to charging £125. We do intend to change this as soon as possible. It is one of a number of complex changes arising from BT Retail's adoption of a new IT system to comply with its commitment to the regulator, Ofcom."

So, I'm now in a dillemma. Should I wait and see what happens?? Or move quickly to get a line by the 1st December. Also, I should say at this point that my ISP, PlusNet, will connect me for £105 so would go with them, especially considering the superior customer service.

But again, should we all wait until BT drop this charge under media pressure?

Should all of us in this situation (moving house to a previous Tiscali line here) therefore wait to see if BT are going to drop this extortionate ridiculous charge under media pressure???

  • hello, dont know how relevant this is,but thought i should let u all know that i have just rang BT to reactivate my phone line and was told that it would cost 125 quid. having already arranged my sky installation i then rang sky back to 'cancel' my installation due to the fact that i wasn't happy paying BT 125quid.i was then told that i could claim the full amount back from sky by means of a claim form. the £125 will be credited to my sky a/c and therefore i will be in credit with sky for a few months or so. therefore i have got the reactivation done for free-courtesy of sky.

Hi, thanks for that! I have just called sky and they are processing my request, and I have to send in my invoice for the £124.99 and this will be put onto my sky account! wow! thank you.
  • Hi Thanks to op for this thread,I only found out about this special offer through this website. Today I spoke to 3 bt employees and not one mentioned this half price connection offer (I am moving to a new address soon )so you can imagine how elated I was when I came on here and found this information. I went back to them and quoted the bt notice number 44/07 and got the discount no problem but if I hadn't mentioned it they would have been happy for me to pay the full connection charge. They still make you pay up front though and "credit" your account with £62.50 and I won't be paying direct debit until this has been used up. thanks again to eveyone. shrewdal :T
  • Hi,

I thought I'd just give some good news.

A couple months back I was moaning about the connection charge I got from BT in a flat I just moved into...
well after a couple of months of sending complaint letter to BT, I got a cheque for the full £124.99 in the post today.

I am over the moon! and I just wanted to spread my happiness :-D
