Good Afternoon,
Apologies for the simple questions but I am really struggling to find a way round the bt re connection charge on our new house, I am just wondering if because I use sky for my calls package would they be able to re connect me and I pay them for my line rental or is only BT that can do this??
Apologies again

Yes Sky can connect you. Not sure what they charge though. Remember if you go for BT and use Sky for your calls you will be unable to make any calls through BT in order to get free 1571 or Caller Display.

With the BT free installation offer I seem to remember somebody mentioning a number that you can call to use up the 10 calls you have to make a month, rather than say calling an 0800 number or a friends land line 10 times, as most of the calls I need to make are to mobiles and these are not included.
Yes, calling 020 7043 1320 (a geographical number for the speaking clock) ten times in quick succession on any Saturday or Sunday each month is what you're thinking of.

BTW, calling 0800 numbers would not count.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Calls to mobiles would be chargeable but they do count as part of the 10 calls you need to make.

I presume you have a BT Line at moment with a Sky Calls Bundle.

You may be able to get one installed at your new address through Sky. Call 08442 411 076 for prices/details. BT will allow you pay by instalments i dont know about Sky.

Utility Broker,
Thank you for your response, I am now looking at getting connected with sky as they are offering it for £29 and cheaper broadband, next question though, will I still have to pay BT the balance of my line rental & is there any way of finding out when my contract will be up?
Thanks

If Sky install your line then you will pay BT nothing. Line rental, calls and broadband will be to Sky.
• I have just read this article on this website

moneysavingexpert.com/deals/free-BT-line-installation

A couple of months ago i moved into my new home the property had just been refurbished however the phone line had been cut down and not installed back in. So when i moved in I was told to contact BT and get them to install a new line so i did they charged me the installation fee of £122.50 and that was that I chose the option 1 which means i pay £15.64 for the first 3 months then it is raised to £23.50 for the broadband service and then i pay £12.50 for line rental I have a 18 month contract. It seems that i could have got my installation for free, so my 3 questions are: Am i able to be reimbursed the £122.50? Second ss there any way of lowering my costs i pay to BT and thirdly even with a 18 month contract am i able to simply change my phone and broadband supplier without any problems?

Thanks

If your still in contract with BT for your line rental yes you will have to pay them for the remainder of the existing 12/18 month term. I presume as your calls are with Sky already, your only on the BT Weekend Call Plan,so your normally be looking to pay about £7.50 for each month remaining of the contract. The best way to find out when the contract is up is to ask BT.
• Hi

I am currently in the process of moving home, our new home has phone sockets already installed, we have plugged a phone in and there is a dialling tone and we have the old number as it was written on the socket
However after numerous calls to BT we have still not been able to get the phone moved over from our current address.

They have eventually realised that the line is a business line which must have been installed by the previous tenant.
All i want to do is get my home phone working, however now the home move Dept at BT have told me i need to speak the business dept and see if they can cancel that line and reinstate it as a residential line.

Has anyone had experience with this?
I have now lost a week with loads of calls back and forth to Bt , terrible customer service and been passed from pillar to post.

I would also prefer not to have to pay the £129 for an engineer to come out , if possible, as i dont seem why they would have to come out when the line is active.

Any advice would be great

Thanks

Welcome to the MSE forums sammysa.

It's obviously ridiculous because the line is the same and it's only a computer/accounting issue (why is that sort of thing so difficult for BT to handle?). In fact, another poster had the same problem - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=29488105&highlight=business#post29488105 and, there, it appears BT company representative came to the rescue.

It might me worthwhile getting them involved by emailing them at btcare@bt.com quoting your username in the title and a link to this post (see below) in the text.

Although they have been asked to do so by Martin, they never bother coming back to post details of what they did (Talk Talk Company Representative is the same) so could you do that if/when the matter is resolved?
