Hi all.
I’ve just moved into a rented flat. It’s a conversion and has all bt points installed. The flats have been there for a few years.
The letting agents say that the previous tenant had the BT line connected, but when I contacted BT they couldn’t find a connection and said I’d have to pay the 125 charge… They did say that if the engineer could find a line then they would waive the charge.
Does anyone know:
1) how likely it would be that the line would be there but they couldn’t find it from the call contact centre
2) 2 If I do have to pay, would there be much chance that the landlord would (at least partly) reimburse me.
Thanks a lot0 -
Plug a phone in a see if there's a dial tone. If there is, dial 17070 and listen. Then you can call back with some ammunition.
A telephone line is not a landlord's responsibility so you have a cat in hell's chance of getting him to cough up.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Just to confirm - I've just placed an order with BT for a new line installation today for £29.99 with the free weekend calls package.
Nothing special to say, I just said that I'd heard of other people getting it for that price. When I rang the other night they quoted the full £124.99 and said there was nothing they could do when I asked if they could do better.0 -
an update -
I contacted the BT rep via e mail, had one more e mail asking for some more info, which i sent last week and had no reply since then.
I have now booked to have an engineer to come out and 'install' the residential line in the apartment next week at the cost of £29.99 for a 18 month contract, but i am also still trying to get the business line cancelled in the apartment , so i can just change this over to a residential line at no cost which i have been advised by BT.
After many frustrating hours spent on the phone , i still dont seem to have got anywhere.
I have managed to get hold of the 'owners' of the business line and they are now also in touch with BT business dept, to try and get this line cancelled for me so i can swop mine over.
Hopefully this will be my last experience with BT...0 -

does this have a contract length and how did you get itas i phoned they said no to that price0 -
You have to ask them for this offer, as they wont offer it to you unless you ask.
its £29.99 per month, but you need to have a 18 month contract.
and make 10 chargeable calls a month.
Hope that helps.0 -

Sorry, should have included that! As redpandabear said above, and the 10 chargeable calls can be made duting the free calls as part of the weekend package.0 -
My mum used to have bt 4/5 years back. And now she wants to change back to Bt as they're cheaper. I tried the, plug in you phone and if there's adial tone etc.. But there is no dial tone, would this mean we have to pay a connection charge?0
