Not necessarilly - but the only way to find out is to ask BT.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I'm not sure if the link to BT's offer has been posted, but it will just help people searching through pages:

Have you got something to share - Do it.
When you don't know - Ask.
  • Thanks for that bit of info I found it really helpful
  • Same problem with me - moving flat and BT wants to charge me £125 to connect! Extortion. The post office can connect but they charge £110, a company called Primus can but they charge £69, and virgin and Talk Talk can connect you for between £35 and £40, but they want to tie you in for ages and are quite expension per month...but at least you are not giving your cash to the rip off merchants at BT.

I can't remember the dates but that means you missed the completely free installation offer then.

On the same note as the earlier msg, i am in rented accomodation and have to move as my landlord wants his property back, ive found another property in the block and called BT to transfer my current phone/broadband package over to the new No..... BT say not our line (Sky) therefore I need to pay a connection fee of £120.

In all previous communications with phone utilities (on trying to get the best package) i have been told that the local exchange is not open... so are Sky renting the line rom BT ? How easy would it be to switch and is it reasonable to expect the connection fee. If I decide to cancel my BT package i would have to forfit the remainder of the 12 contract (8 months) either way i am at a loss.

Whats the best thing for me to do ?

Before anyone attacks me for having a hissy fit over £120 - I'm not working at the moment due to ill health and am living on a very tight budget
