Welcome to the MSE forums mnpngol.

You agreed to the T&Cs (18 month contract and making 10 chargeable or inclusive calls per month) to get the £124.99 discount and, regardless of whether you think the work involved to get the line working was minimal, you have to comply.

As the 10 calls can be inclusive ones (i.e. free), all you have to do is make the effort. If you don't normally use the new line for calls, I'd recommend 10 quick calls to 020 7043 1320 (a speaking clock number) on a Saturday or Sunday each month. I'd make a note in my diary or always do it on the first Sunday of the month so as to be sure. Less than 2 minutes 'work' each month and you will have complied with the condition.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Can I get the free reconnection if I have my line with BT but call package with Sky?

I pay BT for my line rental but Sky for my calls as I have Sky Talk.

I am also moving home on the 25th (no rush) so need to know if I am eligible for the offer.
As the 10 calls can be inclusive ones (i.e. free), all you have to do is make the effort. If you don't normally use the new line for calls, I'd recommend 10 quick calls to 020 7043 1320 (a speaking clock number) on a Saturday or Sunday each month.

How would I do this with the Sky Talk call package?

Also, if I am not eligible for the offer, do Sky rebate the BT installation cost because I am opting to stay with them?

    Thanks :)

    Yes.

You don't. It's impossible to make 10 chargeable calls when you have Sky Talk.

I like your sense of humour!

I was sent a link for free connection/install, but it is the package with £4.99 on top

as a new poster I cant post it but it is the: bt site followed by forward slash anytimecalls

if anyone has the link for just £11.54 no £125 connection fee that would be great

If it needs reconnecting BT,s free connection offer is still available until the 31/1/2010. (18 month Contract)

    http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/p...Impl337855.htm

To get it you need to ask for their Customer Options Team on 0800 800 030 .

Is this what you were looking for.
  • Hi i have managed to get BT to agree to repay me the £125 I paid to reconnect my line in December! I had to sign up to an 18 month contract but it costs the same as what I have now. They said they'll refund the connection charge to my bank account! Watch this space!!!
  • My 79 year old dad has just gone into a care home and I rang BT who told me it would cost £125 to move the phone line as it was within a different exchange - although it is only 5 miles away.

After seeing the free offer on here I rang to ask for this free installation offer and was told that it was only applicable if we took out the triple package with broadband and tv - obviously this is no good to my dad.

We went ahead and cancelled the home phone anyway which has cost £46, as he was in a 12 month contract with free evening and weekend calls and this was the charge for the next 4 months!!!

I think it is a complete rip off for an elderly person who just wants a phone mainly for his family to be able to keep in contact.

The BT (or agency) bod to whom you spoke, LIED to you (regrettably, that is becoming the norm rather than the exception).

Only those who are already on a special offer of some sort are ineligible.

The offer is NOT dependent on the subscriber taking ANY other BT products (or even anything other than the lowest calls plan, the Unlimited Weekend Plan).

  • Thanks Heinz, I will give them another call today to see if I get a different 'bod' who might tell me the truth.

Why does BT bother with an offer which they do not wish to fullfill. Obviously they just use it as a carrot to get you to ring then charge you the full whack.
