What do they mean by "inclusive" calls?

Chargeable calls: Any call which attracts a charge of 0p per minute or greater.

Inclusive calls: Any call which does not attract a charge and which is included in your call plan.

NOTE 1: 01/02/03/056/0845/0870 calls at weekends are chargeable calls.

NOTE 2: Calls to 0800 numbers are not chargeable (there is no price for them and they do not appear on your bill). However, they are not included in BT Retail's call plans.

Calls to some network numbers e.g 100, 1471 and 17070, are also not chargeable. Text messages from a landline are sent to a network number and two plans include 100 free text messages. These are the inclusive calls which BT have in mind.

NOTE 3: The BT use of the word 'inclusive' in this context should not be interpretated in the same way as its use in other contexts.

Why are the BT terms & conditions so difficult to interpret ?
  • Heinz and justpassingby, thank you both.

Understanding the topic raised by aelliott21 is not aided by BT CS's view on chargeable and inclusive calls, which is wrong in every detail. Also, it doesn't help when experts seen as authoritative say:
Yet even if you make chargeable calls, as long as you keep them short, the installation savings should significantly dwarf any call costs.
    That's from

Searching the web gets you posts like this:

Is it any wonder people become confused? If the meaning of "chargeable" is misinterpreted what chance does "inclusive" stand?

Connection and installation amount to the same thing in this case.

Your son is being LIED to (not unusual with BT personnel unfortunately - I suspect the commission culture).

The free connection offer is available to everyone provided they are not already benefiting from another BT offer.

There is no requirement to take anything else (broadband, BT Vision) and you can opt for the lowest calls plan - the Unlimited Weekend Plan.

In fact, it is even available to people wanting a second line.

The only criteria are the 18 month contract for line rental (not necessarily for calls) and the need to make 10 chargeable or inclusive calls each month.

Phone. Without a doubt. Customer Options is the team you want. And keep phoning until you get someone who knows what you are talking about.

  • Hmm - looks like that offer has ended.

£124.99 connection charge (subject to survey) may apply for new lines but most people find they don't have to pay this. If it does apply, you will see this charge in on the order summary before you reach the checkout. You can avoid this charge by taking a calls & broadband package (see below).

  • Well Bt eventually connected the phone today. The engineer told us there was no work at all necessary at the house. It took him 5 minutes to reconnect it at the exchange. He believes that this is not an installation charge but the so called advisors have said it is.
It will be interesting to see if BT now admit they are charging £124.99 for disconnecting someone's phone at the exchange that has been unused for a time and reconnecting it to your existing lines. The engineers say 10 minutes of their time and they do not believe this will merit a full installation charge.
They really need to think seriously about how they are going to get customer loyalty. I would expect a new deal for line rental and evenings and weekend calls for £11.54 instead of £14.53. If it is not forthcoming I will move on from BT and would never consider them for broadband.
