BT Connection Charges (merged threads)

Hi guys, great post.
Can't believe you can finally get connected for free! We joined version a 18 months ago as they gave free connection and could get £10 a month for the internet. They've since put this up to £20 a month (doesn't sound much, but £240 just to check my hotmail!?)
I'm thinking of signing up to the free connection package. I believe you have to pay about £11 a month line rental for 18 months ie you get a the phone for 18months, but what do i do about the web? Can i then go with anyone or has it got to be related to BT (i do have an o2 phone - i think someone mentioned that above, but i need it in simple terms to understand!). Assuming the same is true with TV.
Does anyone know the best/ cheapest way for me to get the line rental and broadband (and possible basic TV if there's a really good deal)?
Thanks guys!

Hi all, my mum was disconnected from BT for non-payment about 8 years ago, and we haven't had a land line since. I'm 21 now, and looking to reconnect the land line under my own name, independent of my parents, for work purposes when I graduate.
Will BT take me on as an entirely new customer, or will there be issues still to clear up over my mum's non-payment?
Thanks, acesI'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0 -

BT may be guilty of many things but it is doubtful they lay the sins of a parent on their children! Join up with a clean slate and a clear conscience.0 -
But wouldn't there be a red flag over the address? Then the same surname etc? I don't think the issue was ever resolved between them.I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0

Any unresolved issue is between BT and the previous account holder, which is not you.
Someone with the same surname as you buying your house wouldn't be too pleased if BT refused to provide a phone line, would they?0 -
I suppose not. Thanks for clearing that up.I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0

i'm sorry if i sound a bit stupid
,i haven't read through every single post (but read quite a lot) i'm confused
posts are talking about installation / connection my son has no bt phone line in his flat i rang up bt to see if he was eligible to have the line installed for free and was told he had to pay the £125 as he has no phone line it's only for people who already have a phone line
, can someone please confirm it's only for re connecting a bt phone line or if its for installing a new phone line
manay thanks in advance0 -
barjam.
Connection and installation amount to the same thing in this case.
Your son is being LIED to (not unusual with BT personnel unfortunately - I suspect the commission culture).
The free connection offer is available to everyone provided they are not already benefiting from another BT offer.
There is no requirement to take anything else (broadband, BT Vision) and you can opt for the lowest calls plan - the Unlimited Weekend Plan.
In fact, it is even available to people wanting a second line.
The only criteria are the 18 month contract for line rental (not necessarily for calls) and the need to make 10 chargeable or inclusive calls each month.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

The issue of the 10 calls has been discussed (and argued) ad nauseam on here. Chargeable calls does not necessarily mean calls for which you have to pay.
It can mean calls which are inclusive in your calls plan. Hence, if you take the cheapest option, the Unlimited Weekend Plan, calls of up to 60 minutes each to UK 01, 02 and 03 numbers at weekends, which are inclusive, will do (despite the fact that you will not pay for them).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
