Unless they extend it then yes - however they have extended it before so who knows?
  • in my new property there is a BT phone socket and a dial tone. Do i need to pay the £122 reconnection fee? i did 17070 to get the number and have checked it with BT but they can't seem to find the number on their system. They suggested the previous owner might have been with Talk Talk.

    Hello A.J.,

To qualify for the free connection offer you can not be currently on any other offer with BT. I will be more than happy to look into this for you and confirm if you would be eligible for the free connection offer. If you could please send me your details to our email address. Our email address can be found on our profile.

    Thanks

  • I dont have any contract or under any offer with BT at the moment. How do i qualify for free connection?
  • I got a friend who has moved into a flat which is not a new-build, it has a bt socket in the entrance and we received a letter saying "come back to BT" or along those words.

As they are only living there until june and require broadband, do they have to pay this connection charge on the basic tarrif? We phoned up and they said yes as they have no record on there system, but im convinced given the age of the flat that there is a line installed.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Getting/taking over a BT line will mean accepting at least a 12 month contract - so BT will not be suitable (even if reconnection turns out to be free) if they're moving on in 6 months.

About the only possibility is Post Office but I doubt they'll connect/reconnect free of charge.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Hi all,

I have recently moved into a new home and trying to sort out a phone line.

My new home has an existing BT socket, but on speaking to BT to try and set up a new account they require £125 to connect. I think the previous owner must have disconnected the phone line. The block also has a Virgin connection point so it may be worthwhile going with them as they may not charge for a connection.

Any ideas of which is the best value for money i.e do BT offer a free connection if you sign up for a certain term? Is virgin the best value for money?

    Advice would be much appreciated.
