True - but they are the equivalent of free. I can't pay any less.

You can take just the lowest BT package which includes free weekend calls - no line rental on its own. You can use the free weekend calls to make the 10 calls you have to make each month to be eligible for the free connection offer. Cost would be £12.50 per month or £11.25 if you go with paper-free billing.

You are then free to choose whoever you want for broadband.

Thanks for the advice jem16- however when I am on the site and select phone line package only and tell them i require a new connection it adds on the one off fee of £122.50 (installation)
If I go through the package bundle offer I am not able to select phone only and have to have a broadband package also.

You need to phone BT to get this offer. Ask for the Customer Options team.

    Thanks again!
I have just read through the new line connection charge (cant post links :()

    which states that
'Please note that some properties, for example new property developments, may have a white BT socket installed that hasn't been connected (ie no dial tone). In this case the standard connection charge will still apply.'
However it does say later that
'Connection charge does not apply to calls and broadband packages nor calls, broadband and tv packages .

Do you think that this means if I take a phone line only they will still charge the fee, it does say that they will let me know further through the order they will confirm and after entering my postcode the charge is still there.

If you phone up (it can't be done online) and ask for the free installation offer you will be able to take the Unlimited Weekend Plan for £12.50 or £11.25 with paper-free billing. This is the cheapest amount you can pay BT for a phone line.

This offer is provided you take an 18 month contract and make 10 calls per month.

I can't be the only one with this on my BT bill:
    What you used

    Phone usage £ 0.00
All your calls were free or included in your plan
What is to be made of this (assuming BT know what they're doing)? Are there free calls which are not inclusive and inclusive calls which are not free?

    i did indeed!

jeez they have all my details, they even told me what my phone number would be, all i need is the appointment with the engineer!

  • Ok, here it goes my second story. Moved into this property last October and had been told by BT there was no BT line at that time so paid the connection fee, engineer spent 2 minutes and there was a live phone line. Did not check the socket before moved in though, big mistake!!! I did not even think about it was a mistake until this September when letters from BT addressed to someone else but at this address started to arrive. I have sent the first three letters back to BT stating addressee no longer lives here, phoned customer services about it and was told it should not happen again... But had enough and opened the 4th letter ( I know I should not have done it) and it was a reminder to pay the bill otherwise BT will stop the services... Hmmmmmm. That is when I phoned the landlord and was told that the guy whose name appeared on the BT bills was a previous tennant... Another 2 letters came through the post and one of them was asking for a return of an equipment. That was when I worked out that the guy must have had BT Vision. Phoned BT again and amongst loads of apologies I was given a reference number and it should not happen again etc. 2 weeks later guess what? Another letter... Same old story: reminder to pay the bill otherwise services will stop... Did not rang BT this time but it seems this was the last letter, have not had anymore since then. BT must have stopped the services for that guy I guess.
Ok, so my question is: how come BT can tell you over the phone giving them the postcode and house number whether there is a live BT line in the property or not, but cannot realise there is a dead line they are sending bills regarding to??? And that line must have been dead for more than a year as I moved in last October!!! Or was here a live line when I moved in and they just wanted my money thinking I am a fool?
Again, I am considering to go to OFCOM and make an enquiry regarding this.... I have got all the letters as evidence.

No reply to date... And guess what, received another letter for that person a few days ago (yes, it is a bill and threat to suspend services...)
OK, it seems BT do not want to know about my query so I am going to prepare the documents and off to court to claim back the connection charge I was forced to pay last year. Looking forward to how BT will prove that there was NOT a live BT line at the property when I moved in... :rotfl:
