I rang today and got the free connection offer but i have been told i have to pay £2.95 for my calling plan when i opted for the free evenings/weekends which wasnt suppose to cost anything additional he said this was because i have gone for the free connection, has anyone else had this??

I cant complain too much i got the free connection but id still like to save the £50 odd over 18 months that im not sure i should have to pay..

I have exactly this problem, but I applied online, so was never advised of this extra charge until my bills starting turning up at £2.95 extra per month (and, incidentally, on an 18 month contract, not the 12 month contract I agreed to). Here's what it says in my order confirmation:

"Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan at no extra cost
Unlimited UK* landline calls after 6pm weekdays and all day at the weekend. For the same price as the Weekend Plan, our best deal is just £11.25 a month line rental on a 12 month renewable contract, saving you over £35 a year.
    £11.25"

    "Total one-off charges £0.00
    Total monthly charges £11.25"

If you speak to BT, they'll just bleat over and over "it's company policy - you can only have one offer on your account" - I've been trying to convince them for the last 6 months that "company policy" doesn't override contract law, false advertising, fair trade etc, but they just don't give a monkey's.

If there's any alternative to using BT in your area, I can't urge you strongly enough to use it.

    Hi VickyA,
I can help with this. Would you email all of your details including your new order reference number to btcare@bt.com. Please include your forum username and also copy in this thread
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=211879&page=80#post27416107 so that I can identify you. To change you to the new offer will more than likely mean that I will have to cancel your existing order and place a new one.
    Many Thanks

  • Having previously been happy with my order i placed on Sunday (which took 30mins) i have been checking for updates only to find today someone has cancelled my order.. without even telling me. I have now had to replace my order after an hour on the phone and waiting even longer to have it installed and i thought the 22nd was bad enough, its kind of hard when you rely on having a phone when your a single parent and cant justify having a home phone and a mobile.. Not happy needless to say i will be making a angry complaint now.

  • We're moving to a new house that has a phoneline but isn't connected.

I was wanting to know, do I need to go through BT. I've seen the 18 month contract deal (free connection), would the price be the same as sky? But then I wouldn't get the free broadband offer at sky I don't think

What would be the most cost effective way of doing it? I'm a bit sick of BT tbh, I put in a complaint as they charged me abit of money when they shouldn't have and it was a major hassle getting it sorted out

    TIA :o

Sky (if you can get them to do it) will charge for (re)connecting a line.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

"If you are a new Sky TV customer and subscribe to Sky Talk Line Rental and a Sky Talk calls package and you don't have an existing BT line, we can arrange installation of a new line. We will inform you of the installation charge when you place your Sky TV and Sky Talk order."

  • If you have a BT socket in your house/flat the first thing to check is whether there is already a live connection. To do this you plug in your phone and if you get a dial tone, your line is live and you dial 17070 which will then tell you the number allocated to that line. You can then choose to take this over or transport your own number there.
If you don't get a dial tone check all the sockets in the house for loose wiring, and repair or get someone in to do this. We got our local electrician.
If all else fails you have to pay the charge, but I agree it is a rip-off. How about a joint complaint to Offcom???!!!
