Okay, I'm still rummaging around for solid info to back up a claim for discounted installation. I stumbled across this page on the BT price list:
http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/Public/notifs/14-01-2009/Cust_Opts_Res_boo/NotificationPeriodImpl3396483185_d0e228.htm#3185-d0e228
Does anybody else agree that this implies that installation is free again, within a contract paying £11.50 pm? The bit I'm referring to is:
Unlimited Weekend Plan is available for an inclusive fee of £30.00 exc. VAT per quarter (£34.50 inc. VAT). For customers who receive VAT inclusive quarterly bills the charges on the bill will be shown as three VAT inclusive monthly fees of £11.50. The fee includes the following:- -Line Rental (for one line)
- -Unlimited Weekend Plan set of pence per minute rates (see Tables 1, 2, 3, and 4)
- -Friends & Family Overseas (not available with Friends & Family Auto Update)
- -Connection of new and additional lines at £106.37 exc. VAT (£122.34 inc. VAT)
- -Unlimited Weekend Plan is also available to Customers with 2 or more PSTN lines on the same account: the pence per minute rates for Unlimited Weekend Plan apply on all lines of the account.
- -Customers will pay £30.00 (Exc VAT), (£34.50 inc VAT) for additional lines on the same account.

Well I applied for line rental online, then got a call yesterday morning from someone in the indian call centre telling me that the line I have in the house IS active but it's a business line. He then went on to say that I would have to contact the previous owner so that they could cancel their line and I could take it over!? Alternatively I could speak to BT business and they could just change the line over to me. I spoke to BT business who said they couldn't change it over as I wasn't the original owner, but BT Residential Services could.
So I phoned sales and they did it there and then over the phone. This is where I get confused. I wanted the line rental (£10.23) online and and the free evening and weekend call plan (free) online. That wasn't a problem, but then the woman told me that it would be £14 odd's a month?0 -
Installation promotion still on today!
For those asking if the promotion for £29.99 telephone installation is available, yes it is! I am moving soon and the line needs to be activated. My OH rang BT and was told installation is £122.33. We weren't happy with that so after finding this thread I thought I've nothing to lose.
I telephoned today and the lady I spoke to said it will be £122.33 for installation of phone line. (Actually there is a phone socket but the line was last used 2004 so that is why they are charging.) So I said that I understand there is a promotion on at the moment for installation at £29.99. She said yes that's right. So one installation booked for £29.99. I'm pretty sure she said it will be £29.35 which included the VAT.
For those who are wondering, yes the promotion is still on so you'd better be quick as I don't know when it ends. They won't tell you they are running the promotion, you must enquire first!
Forgot to add I had to sign up to a new 18 month contract but that is just for the phone. We have broad band but that stays as it is on the old contract.0 -

Thanks BallandChain. I've been trying to find something on their website to quote to them if they deny knowledge, but couldn't find anything. Did you use the 01324 452382 number that BillSavings mentioned earlier or a different number?
Thanks again - guess I'd better just jump in then!______________________________Darth Traderusing the Force of Compoundingsince a long time ago...0 -
I am in the process of moving - so this thread has been useful to me
I found a letter from BT addressed to "The Occupier" at my new address offering a £29.35 connection fee
"offer extended to 31 March 2009 . Available to eligible new and existing customers taking the unlimited weekend plan , the unlimited evening & weekend plan , or unlimited anytime plan for a minimum period of 18 months and making at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls in every three-month period for those billed quarterly or 10 chargeable or inclusive calls per month period if you are billed monthly
bt.com/dealterms
Phone 0800 085 2798 mon - sat 7.30am - 10.00 pm sun 9.00am - 6.00pm no codes to quote
I ordered this today
Prior to this , I called the number on my phone bill and was quoted £122 and an internet search lead to this forum
Interestingly the offer number is open until 10pm whilst the number on the bill closes at 8pm and the letter was aimed at customers who had left BT for Virgin
Thank goodness I am moving - my neighbours ,Karen Matthews and Vernon from "Skint" types are singing at 2.10am as I post this0 -
Hi folks,
I've just got a letter through today saying I can get the connection charge for £29.99 saving £92, up until the 31st of March.
The telephone number on my letter is different to the above poster, and is 0800 085 5264, but my letter does include a reference to broad band, which is no cheaper than what is offered to any customer.
Oh a little birdie tells me, that you can just dial 150 / 0800 800 150 and chose sales and they should be able to do this offer or ask to speak to someone in COT (Customer Options Team) if you can't get through on the freephone (Chargable though if calling from a mobile) number.
I'm currently with virgin at present.
Hope this helps.0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I didn't find anything on BT's website either only what has been posted on this thread. I just thought I've nothing to lose by asking about it, lol. I telephoned 0800 800 150. Let me know how you get on.0 -
But, if you get inclusive geographical calls on your mobile, you can use either the 02002220700 or the 02002220900 gateway number (one or other will work on your network), to 'convert' a freephone number back into an inclusive number.
Or you could just dial their geographical number direct from your mobile

Thanks BallandChain - and to everyone else on this thread who has offered help and advice. I called BT, got passed onto COT, got the deal at £29.35. Superb!
(Just have to figure out how on earth to make 10 calls a month now - I'm more of a 10 calls per year person!).______________________________Darth Traderusing the Force of Compoundingsince a long time ago...0
