    Hi Matt

when you say that the lady in BT you spoke with mentioned a price around £14 it sounds like she was referring to the price of the package without the discounts.

To get the discounted price advertised(£10.27) you need to make sure that you have the following:

    Online Paper-free ebilling
    Direct Debit

If you dont have both of the above then you need to get them asap to get the best price. You also need to know that by entering into this deal it carries a 12 month renewable contract.

If you were already aware of this just let me know and if you would like I can take a look at your order in more detail and make sure that everything is showing as it should.

  • Hi all

I've just tried calling BT to get the £29 installation deal and was told that although it was aimed at people who'd previously left BT for Virgin etc, I could get the discount but only if I had the code from the letter.

    Does anyone have the code?

    Thanks

    Sal

Welcome to the MSE forums sallyb23.

I think you probably reached another inadequately-trained BT employee.

There is no code to quote. See HERE.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

That's the charge for 1571 and has nothing to do with the 10 calls requirement when you get the discounted installation.

Thanks for correcting me. I always thought that the 1571 answer service is free? Hell, I am confused. I wish BT terms, conditions and whatnot would be easy to understand. I am sure I wasn't told over the phone that I had to make a set amount of calls for the cheaper installation.

But, if you get inclusive geographical calls on your mobile, you can use either the 02002220700 or the 02002220900 gateway number (one or other will work on your network), to 'convert' a freephone number back into an inclusive number.

Thanks, Heinz (yet again!). The first of these works fine for me with O2 - I had no idea this was possible.
  • Thanks Heinz - called them again and a different advisor found a line registered to my address that he could reactivate for free!

I wanted to get a BT line but discovered the one at my house had been disconnected at the exchange.

Today (18/03/09) I called 0800 800 150 and selected (3) for BT sales and the conversation resulted in them trying to charge me £124.99 reconnection fee (which I of course told them to !!!!!! off)

I then called the same number but this time selected (2) BT customer options (sales for those who want to switch services from another phone provider).

I was never asked who my current provider is, only did I want to keep my old number to which I said no.

I was offered an 18 month contract at £11.50 (inc VAT) a month (£10.27 paperless) with unlimited free weekend calls. The reconnection fee was £29.35. I gave my details and booked my appointment and voila they are activating it next week.

The only disappointment was that I could not get unlimited free evening and weekend calls for the same price just weekend calls as that offer could not be used in conjunction with a lower connection fee.

There was no mention of having to make any calls per month or anything like that to quality for the discounted reconnection.

They did mention that the price was increasing to £12.50 (inv VAT) from 1st April
