The going out on your own thing takes practice, but during the day time it's a doddle - honestly. You could join the WEA which does really really cheap assertiveness courses that are brilliant for the self esteem if you feel that your's is a bit low. They also do a free creche thing if it doesn't fit in when you are child free.
Do you go to a library in your locality as they advertise things on. Do you like walking? Usually there are ramblers things going on.
What do you like doing? What interests you?
Get a local paper & see if there is anything that you feel you'd like to go to - doesn't have to be at night.0 -
dogcat - shopping?
I have been meaning to teach myself to sew so may push forward. I've lacked motivation which I guess could be down to the depressed feeling.
mumslave - in that respect you could be right. Due to the position I'm training for I've been very reluctant in the last few years to go to the doctors for anything other than dry skin or throat infections. My doctor is very helpful though so I may head there monday, for a chat and see what he thinks.
pookienoodle - sorry to hear about your situation. If you are ever feeling lonely I'm usually lurking for a chat! I've already worked with so many families with children with the long term illnesses... it's the families who often need the most support. I hope you are looking for yours!
I did try internet dating... I met the most recent person I briefly dated through one. I found it quite exhausting sifting through so many strange and frankly unsuitable people. He was the only one who seemed even remotely suitable, which he didn't end up really being! Maybe I'm too fussy lol.0 -
stay away from internet bloody dating !!!! its not the real worldResolve not to be poor, Whatever you have , Spend less.0

Tish and choille - again thank you for good suggestions. It's all things I've previously discounted, but feeling so low I know I need to try more. I know I blame my local area for a lot but I'm not the only person who lives here so I think I need to step up and look some more. Tish, you could be right. It's been a long culmination of things, I've never been a 'popular' person as such, but having been friends with them for the 5 years I've lived here I think it's been a shock as I'd felt quite secure, particularly when these friendships survived my marriage break up (as someone else, I'm so sorry I can't remember off the top of my head who, also said, I lost a lot of friends when that happened.)0

I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who's replied... it's made me feel even a little bit happier tonight just knowing I'm not the only person here right now. I actually have tears in my eyes!
It's made me realise how bad I've let it get... thank you so much everyone for the support.0 -

Incidentally, what's the odd genre?Music is my absolute passion, if I could drive it would be something I'd be persuing... about 30 minutes away are some good live music venues, but as it stands with not driving I wouldn't make the last train home
something to think about for sure....
Ah, I didn't say the music genre was odd (maybe it is) I said it was obscure. Well, it seems to be pretty obscure to anyone else I've ever discussed it with. I'm a slave to stoner and doom. Not that I expect you to know what that is but you did ask!0 -
worriedsik - I have felt a bit like that!
Trouble is, it's hit me that I go nowhere, and meet noone! It's not like I have close friends to meet their friends, iyswim!!! Even the few friends I do have have NO single friends, and even the taken ones wouldn't be close in age or local should they become single anytime soon!!! :rotfl:0 -
Sorry B&T, I hadn't re-read, I knew it began with 'O'! I'm intrigued by the genre.0

many years ago before I met my hubbie I was casually dating a local guy, after a few weeks he told me he was going on holiday with his mates.
while he was on holiday his wedding photo appeared in the local rag:eek:
he was actually on his honeymoon.0 -
Gingerbread, like Bitterandtwisted says, is a great organisation - I know that there's a very active one in the place where I live which is a very small town - so check out if there's one near you. I didn't join the one near me as I felt it was for people with younger children and mine were mid teens when me and the boys dad split.kimmee - so sorry to hear of your relationship breakup. You sound so optimistic too! Having said that, I was also, 2.5 years ago!!!!!
I know I'm wallowing... I know that. I just do feel in the last few months that I'm sinking.
You're not wallowing - we're all allowed to feel down once in a while but you've got a lot going for you - you're young, wonderful children, a great career in the offing, getting to grips with your debts. I know it's not easy (and I HONESTLY know how you feel) but you must try and find some positives in your life. Take every chance you can to go out, even something that may seem like it's not going to be a lot of fun may turn out to be a wonderful time. Don't worry about being without a partner - I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that being alone is better than being in a bad relationship. Find something that you can feel passionate about - mine is genealogy and gardening and get immersed in that so you haven't got time to feel depressed (easier said than done sometimes but you've got to try).
There's alot of support for you here - use our collective shoulders .
