I thought that submisson of the MAC to the old provider by the new was considered as the date of giving notice? Most providers require 30 days notice, assuming you are already out of any minimum term contract. Then, assuming that migration takes 7-14 days, you are likely to have an 'overlap' of around 2-3 weeks when you will be connected to your new ISP but still charged by your old one?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

That is exactly the same respone I keep getting. They insist that I should have told them about my migration , but I saw by the letter quoted above that it is not up to me . Now , after me threatening them with going to the newspapers about this , they have e mailed me today and said I have to pay until March 9th as I have that time to run on my contract ! I have replied that it was them that broke the contract not me. I don't expect to win though ,once they hand over the debt to a collection agency you are basically stuffed , plus you get a bad credit rating . I intend to make them wait and I have written to the Daily Mail helpdesk. We shall see.By the way , I have emailed 15 copies of my welcome letter from my new provider to them . It is like speaking to a brick wall .
Do you still have the letter they sent with your MAC code? I found mine this afternoon. Quote:
As soon as your new provider notifies us that they will be supplying your new broadband service we will cancel the Tiscali broadband part of your account with us
As I understand it, the new ISP has to notify the existing one as the transfer has to be agreed. So why aren't they cancelling accounts?0 -
Yes , I have the letter and have emailed it to them . However, they just take no notice of it or my constant battering on .I feel as if I am in a parallel universe where I can't make contact . I suppose it must be like being dead and invisible. I did ask my new provider if they had told them and they said once they had tagged the line as theirs , Tiscali could not run alongside them . This is all giving me a nervous tic !0

Today I received my letter from Talktalk. I am currently on tiscali's £14.99 per month package with 8mb max, unlimited downloads, evening and weekend calls, line rental and some international calls.
In mid February I shall be automatically put onto a Talktalk package which is exactly the same only with a 40GB cap. They are going to up the cost to £18.49 a month.
So I shall be paying more for less.
I phoned customer services and asked them if they could transfer me to the Talktalk essentials package as this also costs 18.49 a month but comes with free local calls, free router and free 0845/0870 numbers.
I was told I would have to leave Tiscali (who I thought no longer existed) and migrate to TalkTalk. This seems very strange.
So tomorrow I shall phone and request a MAC code and start shopping around. I think a stumbling block will be the fact I have a Tiscali line and not a BT line. That's why I thought a move to a current TalkTalk package would be a simple option.
Has anyone else had this letter and feel like they are paying more for less.0 -

I've had a letter today increasing the £24.99 current charge with Tiscali - line rental, anytime calls, unlimited BB but in a rural area so using BT's exchange equipment - to £28.23 for the same but with a 40Gb cap. They are offering me a £20 Amazon voucher if I sign an 18 month contract.
Can they simply change my Tiscali contract? There's no mention of this and they say that from 15 February my current package WILL change. I'm not happy!0 -

No, if you don't accept it your contract is null and void. So take the opportunity and leave. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

The trouble is a quick check doesn't show any better details if you have to rely on the BT exchange equipment. It seems Tiscali were giving me a good deal which is why I stayed with them for three years.

Any other LLU options?

So if I want to keep my Tiscali broadband, it will now cost me £19.99 instead of £14.99
I received a letter from Talk Talk this morning and it has confused me no end. For some reason I can't quite work out, I only pay £9.99 per month currently but TT now want to put this up to £14.99 - a 50% increase. Why am I paying so much less than everyone else?
Also, since my line rental was taken over by another company last year, my phone bills have been around £3 per month - including line rental!!! I've had very little contact from the new company and am still paying by direct debit but I have no idea why the charge is so low.
I'm very unhappy about this price increase, having used Tiscali for 6 years now. But I'm more worried that I'll end up with an increase in my line rental too!!!!:rudolf: Always skip and eat your peas :rudolf:0 -
You can't possible be paying only £3 for line rental-which is this other company you refer to? What tariff are you on?
LR is invariably about the same as BT: £11.49pm.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
