The problem is that not all suppliers are available , particularly in remote areas like mine . I can get Plus net , but that starts at £11.99 per month then after 3 months it goes up to £19.99.So I would be back to square one having gone through all the problems associated with a change from Tiscali . Another thing is Plus net is not unlimited. That may not be important , in any case I have no idea how much I use .BT is £15.99 I Believe. I just do not know what to do . I do know that I don't like having my arm twisted by those TT scumbags .

Plusnet Value on a Market 1 or 2 exchange is £11.99. Only the Premium and Pro products are £19.99. This gives you a 10GB data allowance.

The problem with Plusnet is that you have to pay up front for a new router. I have decided to go with BT at £11.99 per month and free home hub . This is a 10 gb deal but as I download very little, I hope it should be OK .I have requested my MAC from Tiscali. Also BT are currently upgrading to 20mbps. I have limited options as I live in a remote village , but after the way I was spoken to by Tiscali they can go and take a jump.

The router is free, but you do have to pay a delivery charge which I think is £6.99.
Plusnet are owned by BT, but the customer service is much better.

  • The entire reason I got a phone line was to get ADSL broadband.

Worked out the sums at the time (not now though) and found BT as phone provider and Tiscali as internet provider to be the best option for 12 months.

Now with TalkTalk moving the goal posts in what is apparently an agreed 'contract' by both parties I now find almost halfway in that my 12 month contract can be cancelled leaving me paying for an unwanted phone line... so now I have to pay for a another 12 month contract (making 18+ months).

How can these contracts can be allowed?
For it to be fair I could decide halfway through a contract that I am paying too much as there are now other cheaper/better deals... so I could reduce payments by £5 or more!!!! :rotfl:

Anyway, good news. I phoned another broadband provider and explained my situation and that if they could better my current offer I would happily change providers... they did I am happy they are happy :T and I am never going to recommend to my friends or be a TalkTalk customer in my life ;).

Who is the new provider, please?!! Am in same boat. Shame, as Tiscali have been fine for me for many years now before this sudden 30% price hike!

Am on a non-LLU exchange so limited options for switching it seems... :-(

Non LLU does not limit your options at all, you can use any ISP you like. But it does mean that generally you will pay more than you would for an LLU service.

  • JPD23 there are only a few providers who will offer cheap internet for Non-LLU.

Give their sales team a ring most of them should be able to give you something over 12 month contract which would compete with their competitors, just let them know your position and that you want to leave if they can match/better their offer.

I have made a saving but more importantly I feel so much happier moving to another company who I feel will have more principles than TalkTalk.

Incidently when I first was looking for broadband their sales team kept spam calling me... after only filling in my phone number to check availability on their web site! *and alway check for the hidden/page formatted opt-out boxes.

If countries we were really serious about the environment then the law should have been passed about opting out of spam 'x' and having to opt-in.

    I could go on........ :rotfl:

As one of Tiscali's 'most valued customers' I have today received their 'fantastic deal' offer too.

I have been a broadband-only customer of Tiscali for years and have generally been very happy with the service provided, but as soon as Talk Talk became involved (and we were told that nothing would be affected) I knew it would only be a matter of time before shoddy treatment would be on the horizon.

So if I want to keep my Tiscali broadband, it will now cost me £19.99 instead of £14.99, unless I have the amazing free package on offer. Reading the (very) small print it would also seem my unlimited downloads is now to be capped at 40gb per month. And should I choose the amazing free package, every call that is made outside the inclusive weekend landline calls will be subject to a 9.25p connection charge. What a rip off.

I think I'm going to opt for one of their amazing free MAC codes instead.
I have just received my letter from TalkTalk dated 9th Dec not at all happy with them. I was actually a Lineone user before tiscali took over and did not have this treatment. I pay £9.79 a month at the moment and because I am tied in to BT for my calls i would have to pay £19.99 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a con and rip off, they told me i was not in contract with them so could have a mac code if i wanted to. they didn't try to keep me. What a time to try to change, got to spend the evening trying to find another provider. Surely what they are doing is wrong, is there nowhere to complain to make a difference ..........disgruntled
  • Had the same letter today, even though they in the process of going from Tiscali -> Talktalk have managed to somehow get my address wrong, so thanks to a kind neighbour for bringing it round for me :).

So, I can either pay £5 more a month, get my unlimited downloads capped at 40gb and be tied into ANOTHER 18months, or leave.

So, I'll be leaving! What a bunch of jokers. My exchange is non-LLU, which is a pain, but I'll be doing some searching around tonight I think :)

Hi peeps. Do get on the phone to Tiscali on Monday because : "Tiscali customers on the all-the-calls-you-can-make (£19.99) package could see their monthly bill rise to £28.48, although they will have the benefit of free calls to 0845/0870 numbers and free technical and customer support, for which they currently have to pay."

"One million Tiscali home phone and broadband customers will be switched over to TalkTalk from 7 January following its takeover of the company – and some could see their monthly bills rise by as much as a third."

This customer threatened to leave and got a reduction: "Perhaps Tiscali thinks I'll be happy because of the big reduction. Hardly. I feel that I've been a mug, blithely paying a monthly bill that could have been halved at any time if I'd threatened to leave."

The call centre is 0845 077 4488 (although it's only open Monday to Friday).
