I've also received my fantastic offer in the post today however I'm also taking them up on a free MAC instead!!!
Thanks a bunch Talk Talk, have had great service from Tiscali for 5 years, no problems, no calls to customer service or tech support. It had been a plug n play service from day one.
Still, that was Tiscali, so long Talk Talk :naughty: "cough" ossers!!! Yes that was a T I coughed on, not an L!!!

I have posted my complaint on Tiscali's forum ,and the moderator more or less told me what they are doing is legal and hard luck !I may test the legality of all this in court . I don't like the sharp practice being used by talktalk. Smacks of totalitarianism.

Keep trying with them. It took me five calls on day 1, a complaint via the website form, and a further call to Customer Services a few days later to get it resolved.

Unfortunately, the moderator is undoubtedly correct that what they are doing is legal, but I would say that morally it is not, and from a customer service/retention point of view, it is an absolute shambles. The lady I spoke to in Customer Services on Thursday could only agree with this sentiment.

I am in the same shoes. It is infuriating that this sort of thing is allowed. Basically forced to pay a fiver a month more unless I take up their phone service. There is no way I will take up talk talk with my arm twisted. Plusnet or uk online seem to be the only options I can see that may be ok , but not sure on their reliability of systems.,
One thing that strikes me is the fact that the broadband market does seem to be monopolised by bt and a couple of others that really all charge about the same , pretty much a fixed market.
It seems that talk talk have made a conscious effort to get rid of a large section of the tiscali customer base that they thought were not as profitable as it should be

TT make far more profit when your line is fully LLU, that's why they're able to offer more competitive pricing if you take the phone service. While they still have to pay line rental to BT, there's little margin in it for them.
Plusenet are fine, but bear in mind that they are also BT owned.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • What's peoples oppinions on the post office service? I too am in a non LLU area so very restricted but a number of my neighbours are with post office and highly rate it.
I start reading reviews on the net and people seem to want to run a mile from them so I then start favouring Plus Net but then reviews on them are just the same and it also seems the same with what was once Tiscali which I have never had a problem. It seems people are all too quick to slate a company when they are having problems.
  • I just got my letter today, currently on tiscali 8mb unlimited but live in a rural village so max I get is 2mb. Been searching for a replacement and there doesn't appear to be one.
  • I'll be asking for the MAC code from these dirty double crossing devils,

I note the timing - right on the busiest time of the year, letter dated 10/12 and £5 increase starts 14/01 which leaves barely a month's notice.

I've just had the letter of doom and have sent Tiscali an email expressing my displeasure. I have been given the usual phone number, rung, and been told that my call is important and they are experiencing higher than expected demand. Gosh how unexpected. I've replied by email with a simple choice. Keep my contract at £14.99 or send me a shiney new MAC code. I'll let you know what happens. Pity as I've had good service over the past 5 years I have been with Tiscali. I have limited choices as am in the country. Plus net is cheaper but Demon looks a reasonable deal if you tie in for 2 years!

The problem is that not all suppliers are available , particularly in remote areas like mine . I can get Plus net , but that starts at £11.99 per month then after 3 months it goes up to £19.99.So I would be back to square one having gone through all the problems associated with a change from Tiscali . Another thing is Plus net is not unlimited. That may not be important , in any case I have no idea how much I use .BT is £15.99 I Believe. I just do not know what to do . I do know that I don't like having my arm twisted by those TT scumbags .

Having a similar problem to the OP, except with Sky. They are saying I have to take their phone package, and if I don't, the broadband will go up by £5 a month. I'm thinking of going to Be or O2. I'd suggest other people do the same.
