Excel only send some debt collector letters, it's nothing to worry your Mum - and what a crying shame you paid the scammers. Never make that mistake again, please.

Debt collectors are not bailiffs so no-one is going to turn up on your doorstep. Please spend a few hours before you go, reading up on this scam with your Mum so she's completely comfortable with ignoring the letters. She won't pay the con-merchants to make it go away will she, please say she won't, it's only a few letters!

Start with reading the sticky threads at the top of the forum board, show your Mum the pics of the debt collector letter-chains:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

Show your Mum the Watchdog clip about private parking tickets that you'll find when reading those posts on this thread. It's easy to find on many threads and on the stickies.

Then read as many other cases as it takes for you to both understand this is NOTHING to worry about. No-one is going to Court, tell your Mum NOT to pay and NOT to read the threats if she'd waver and believe them (but why would you if you'd seen a preview of the very same letters on here?). I really hope your Mum 'gets it' like we do, I am a Mum as well and would NEVER pay this, it's like paying phishing email scammers and is such a simple con.

I seriously don't understand why people pay these bogus tickets when a quick Google reveals the scam in seconds (quicker than it would take to have made that payment). Your money helped the scammers continue this protection racket - sorry but that's the truth.

One very quick search found this well-known Small Claims case (extremely rare that Excel tried Court, they got their fingers burnt a couple of times trying to make examples of people and they never try now). See what a judge thinks of Excel's parking charges:

    http://www.chad.co.uk/news/local/local_news_2_9302/judge_says_excel_parking_fines_illegal_1_701811

So sorry you fell for it, please don't let your Mum become a victim as well, she only has to follow the Watchdog example and make a paper aeroplane out of any letters. Only ever take a parking ticket seriously in the UK if it comes from the Police or the Council.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I have just got a "Parking Charge Notice" from Excel Parking Services Ltd. They claim I did not display a valid ticket! I have parked in this car park every working day for a year and have ALWAYS paid as I did today but they claim my vehicle was not displaying a valid ticket.
I was going to appeal but the news on the forum is it will be a waste of time.
I am right to not bother appealing, ignore this charge notice and all subsequent letters I get from Excel and whoever else they claim to be no matter what they threaten?

Yes. Don't be scared that they might clamp you. They would be breaking the law if they clamped you over an alleged "debt", especially as I imagine that there are no signs in that car-park warning about clamping.

I have checked and the car park sign does not say anything about clamping. I have to carry on parking there but from now on will be making sure I park perfectly in the lines, only in a marked bay and stick the ticket I buy every day somewhere obviously in view.
Excel make a fortune out of ticketing people in my office block but to my knowledge I am the only one who has refused to pay.

Then spread the word to the rest of the office that they do not have to pay these tickets for breaking Excel's silly rules.

For a start they are not "fines" and if Excel did clamp her they would be breaking the law.
