OP I think in fairness what people are objecting to is that you think a potentially serious traffic offence is "minor" compared to someone breaking into your GFs car... one could have lead to potential injury or death - the other I doubt much more than maybe a few scratches from cleaning up the broken glass. Inconvenient yes - important by comparison? No!
You committed a traffic violation infront of a police vehicle and you got caught - I commend that you recognise that and you owned up and took your documents to the station (although it's not that you had a choice...) - but to try and have a pop at the police because you or your partner lost a very important document
The police are there to do a job and jumping the lights may to you be a minor crime, but often pulling someone for a minor (in your words - not mine!) infringment leads to finding much bigger problems... like DUIs etc.
If you don't want to have dealings with the police then don't try to beat the amber lights next time :) Simple :)

Thanks, Yeah I understand that, but please don't get me wrong, I don't make a habbit of running red lights or even speeding for that matter. I do believe I am a safe driver. Yes it can be fatal when people run red lights. The difference for me is that the roads were gridlocked anyway. And it wasn't blatantly on red it was red for less than a second. However it in an offence and it was wrong. I was satisfied with my punishment. And it was at my own fault the producer got lost. But the fact that I will have to go to court over it is what frustrates me. I can not afford court costs as a student. And in relation to my GF's car, they didn't even take fingerprints. They didn'y even visit her or anything. To me that is wrong. I am going to court and whoever broke into the car will continue to break into cars and will never get caught cos the police dont even try.

  • No, because the police are not above telling lies. Go again with a witness and go through the whole sorry pantomime. Your witness must be prepared to take the collar number again and turn up in court to testify in your defence against failure to produce. Fortunately [but with no real evidence] I think magistrates are prepared to believe that the police will tell absolute porkies when it suits them - but they really would prefer to have some concrete evidence that the police are telling porkies.

Well to my advantage I study Law as part of my degree at uni and so in my tutorial on Friday I have an accademic barraster and so hopefully she will advise me as well.

  • hi deep ocean,

understand your fustration with this and hope you get it sorted out without going to court, seems stupid to waste more people's time & money on this. Surely their is a paper trail, i.e the duplicate copy of the policeman's ticket??

you will always get a few whiter than white folk on here, i new you were in for a good bashing as soon as i read your first post!!

the police dealt with it the way they saw fit, your willing to pay it and take the points which you said yourself you deserve, no need for the bashing!!

I think he totally deserved it, anyway my offer still stands - he can come to our bike rally in August and see how his bull poop goes down there. It's not the running the red light but his pathetic little attempts to justify it and denigrate the police for bothering him. he's a prime oxygen thief in my opinion.

They do try - the problem is resources... I've had houses and cars broken into so I feel some sympathy. The problem is with car break-ins the chances of getting a usable fingerprint is neglible. Not only that but then they have to eliminate your finger prints, your GFs fingerprints and potentially anyone else who has lawfully touched the car recently. And contrary to popular belief then most of these pesky thieves have watched CSI too and know to wear gloves ;) Leaving the police with having spent hundreds of pounds in time to dust the car for no evidence and all for a £50 stereo (if it was a nice one - that would be the second hand value...)
What would a visit have acchieved?
Granted some thieves don't get caught but very few "only" thieve from cars... and eventually the police catch up with them. Infact the police can be incredibly tenancious and stubborn when it comes to catching someone they KNOW have been involved in criminal activity but haven't yet got the proof... many of them take it as a personal affront and will keep an eye out for someone for years until one day they catch them ;)

Ooops, I overlooked the fact all motorcyclists drive to an A1 Police Standard, all of the time?

Anyone, repeat anyone who has been driving for some years knows only too well they have ALL broken the law at some point. Having read through each post, I think it’s reassuring that “our future” are prepared to stand up and accept they have done wrong and be prepared to take the penalty. Of course running a red light is a stupid thing to do, but he didn’t kill your motorcycle club friend (as far as I’m aware), no more than he knocked down my best friend. Would you prefer him to disregard the summons he receives, or not pay the fine or argue in court some stupid mitigation – I guess then you could really throw stones. Perhaps some would do well to consider a retreat to their greenhouse?

Motorcyclists, like drivers of cars, lorries, buses et al sometimes do stupid things. Thank goodness some of them are big enough to say “I did wrong, I’ll pay the penalty”. Maybe he will learn by his mistake.

After much consideration and deliberation, I will decline your generous offer, tempinting it may be. I will continue to breathe your air and eventually become the future of britain. If there has been any positive consequences evolved, it is that I can continue to live with the knowledge that an opinionated little man on a big bike with a horrendous attitude will be losing sleep with the thought of my existance. Are you sure that you are not Victor Meldrew dressed in leathers?

The point being made is not that he shouldn't have gone through the red light, but don't start slagging off the police because you got caught driving wrecklessly.

I think almost everybody on here would admit to have driven outside of the law at some point, but to try and say that it is minor and shouldn't be dealt with because there are worse crimes happening in the world is not a good attitude.

Also i like the fact that the OP refers to himself as innocent, but then admits to the fact he admits being in the wrong. Oxymoron anyone?
