Amber means you should stop.
I had someone run into the back of me because I stopped at a red light. two cars ahead of me went through on red. that's two cars after the one that ran the amber light. the muppet behind me decided he was going to run the red light as well.
I've got little sympathy for people who run amber lights, let alone accelerate to try to beat them. The only time I'll go through an amber light is if I think the road conditions are such that I cannot safely stop before the line. that means for most practical purposes when I'm around a car-length or less short of the line and the road is wet. And if there's an idiot tailgating me and he runs into the back then it's not my problem.
Amber lights are not for accelerating through. Maybe the next time you run a red light you'll get charged with careless driving. is it worth the risk?
Fair comment, I hate tailgaters, i like to leave a safe space in front in case they have a blow out or are involved in an accident themselves. I'm not normally one for running red lights either, on this particular day traffic was at a stand still. As the traffic began to move again I was laid back and relaxed and left a gap between me and the car in front. As I began to move no more than 5 MPH the light turned to amber. I was the next car over the lights, split second choice, accelerate or brake. This hassle tells me the brake would have been the better bet. However I can say with certainty that I did not and have never put anybody at risk on the roads. But I did run a red light where traffic was at gridlock with nobody travelling more than 5MPHIf you wish in this world to advance, your merits you're bound to enhance; You must stir it and stump it, and blow your own trumpet, or trust me, you haven't a chance.0 -

but it looks like my only option is to wait for my summons.
I want to pay the fine but dont know where to and I don't have a reference number even if I did know who to contact.
I wanted to surrender my licence at the station to add my points but they wouldn't take it without the producer.
Not really sure what else to do other than sit and wait for my summons to court as instructed by the desk sergeantIf you wish in this world to advance, your merits you're bound to enhance; You must stir it and stump it, and blow your own trumpet, or trust me, you haven't a chance.0 -

OP I think in fairness what people are objecting to is that you think a potentially serious traffic offence is "minor" compared to someone breaking into your GFs car... one could have lead to potential injury or death - the other I doubt much more than maybe a few scratches from cleaning up the broken glass. Inconvenient yes - important by comparison? No!
You committed a traffic violation infront of a police vehicle and you got caught - I commend that you recognise that and you owned up and took your documents to the station (although it's not that you had a choice...) - but to try and have a pop at the police because you or your partner lost a very important document
The police are there to do a job and jumping the lights may to you be a minor crime, but often pulling someone for a minor (in your words - not mine!) infringment leads to finding much bigger problems... like DUIs etc.
If you don't want to have dealings with the police then don't try to beat the amber lights next timeSimple

A split second looks like becoming an Expensive mistake. The actual problem with running a red light during gridlock is often the person who does so blocks part of a junction or a roundabout entrance/exit, which actually exacerbates the problem, frays tempers everywhere which increases the likelihood of accidents.0 -

I didn't have a witness with me but I did get her name and collar number and she did put my documents on a computer when I was there. Do you think that will be enough? If you wish in this world to advance, your merits you're bound to enhance; You must stir it and stump it, and blow your own trumpet, or trust me, you haven't a chance.0 -
