All they have 'saved' is the expense of printing another sheet or two with your calls on it. Well, unless you cough up £1.50pm.
Which proves that all the guff about the saving rain forrests is just a smoke screen.

It is simply a way to extort another £1.50 out of most of their punters.

If you don't like it, vote with your feet. Two years ago most of my family and relations were on Orange contract. In fact I encouraged them to join. The last one goes in two months time.

    Can someone explain the issue?

You get charged for Itemised Billing @ £1.50/mth
You can opt out by texting Orange
For claiming purposes the Summary sheet does suffice and seeing as you're on MSE you've got 'net access and can view an Itemised Bill online?

Either i'm blind or I can't see that the fuss is about? No I don't work for Orange, I was a customer of theirs three years ago and i'm about to go back to them. I've been weighing up the pros/cons, and I don't see this as a massive issue.
  • It is very convenient for me to check a paper bill. I don't want to register with yet another website. I spend enough time in-front of a computer as it is. Orange are now going to charge for something that previously (at least for six years was 'free'). And it is not an 'opt-in' charge, if you don't opt-out you will have to pay an extra £1.50 so to me it is cynical, and it is money grabbing and it is not 'fair'. Yes, in the scheme of life, death, war, poverty, it is a small thing. But hey, I thought moneysavingexpert.com was about the 'small things' (like the £2 saving club, or saving a few £ each month by switching energy suppliers) and these all add up into 'big things' ie saving money.
The box said "Windows 98 or better". So I got a Mac...

    What a spot!

Didn't know about this and we have 3 Orange simcards in our household.

I just rang about mine and it doesn't apply anyway - I asked why it applies to some accounts and not others and was told it depends on whether you have an invoice or a statement. As I have a statement I would not have the £1.50 levied anyway, so no need to opt out.

Can you state what tariff you are on please?

I sent a letter to orange, and got a reply yeasterday. They basically I cant cancel the contract as the itemised billing is an additonal charge, and therefore I have to see out the rest of my contract.

Did anyone else get replies ?
  • I have been with orange a long time. Recently upgraded which they made me have 18 months in the orange shop. They assured me there was new changes to the contract. I was not impressed with the new charge and so I rang. They appear to have moved there call centers overseas and the staff member I spoke to could see no problem with the charges and say ' orange has to make a profit'.
I asked to be put through to disconnections who promptly have a fire drill and I was cut off with the message I would be rung back. I of course rang back as I heard nothing. I was informed that I would have to buy my self out of the contract which would cost over £300. I explained that they had changed the contract so surely thay had forfieted that right. No NO.
Next I sent a letter to their complaints department who rang me yesterday to say that as itemised billing had been a free service they could charge for it at any time. I asked the lady if theis could apply to there other services such as answer machine. She humed and harred and siad there was no plans to charge. When I pressed her she said that in therory they could charge. I phoned ofcom who kept me on hold for ofer thirty minutes with the message that they do not investigate individual cases great.
As for online billing orange wants me to ring a premium number to sort out a password issue.
You cannot beat these companies but I wish I new a legal way to make the rest of my contract a high cost nightmare for them.
    Any ideas.

Make sure you use all your inclusive minutes if you have any spare each month (only if they don't rollover!). Call xnet mobiles if your inclusive minutes allows that. I had 1000 xnet offpeak minutes a month and only used about 200. I set up a spare phone with an O2 sim and dialled it from my contract phone and let it run for 800 minutes over a weekend. Just make sure you don't go over your inclusive minutes!

Could also try paying your bill by a method other than DD but you may be charged extra - so it won't be worth it.
