Well, I've had a mail back from Orange CS regarding the charge on 'EQ Virgin' tariff - and it's not good news.

They have confirmed that I will be subject to the itemised billing charge, despite Virgin still offering free itemised billing.

Anyone else been told any different?

I saw the note about the £1.50 charge, and having to contact them if you didn't want it. Was so mad about it I called 150, and basically threatened that my boyfriend and I would both leave unless they continued giving us itemised billing for free. Was told the charge applied to everybody, so asked to speak to a manager, who called me back. She said that the charge does not apply to all cuatomers, and as I am a premier customer I won't be charged - personally, I don't believe this, and think they just backed down so I wouldn't leave!

Worked out well tho, they are not going to be charging me for the itemised billing! :T Just got to wait for the inevitable c**k up on the bill next month tho!
  • It just seems ridiculous that they can take away what you've always had off them and call it an optional extra! For example, my contract includes 120 minutes and 1000 texts for £25 on a student contract. What they've done is equivalent to taking 500 texts off me and saying "if you still want the 1000, pay is another £10", but since "this is an additional extra" you cannot terminate your contract! Pathetic! T-Mobile FlexT here i come!
  • I have phoned Orange twice about this, each time I have been promised a call back from the retention dept as I have said I will be leaving Orange as soon as my contract is up.

I think a £1.50 charge for an itemised bill is shocking, especially as I have had that 'service' for 'free' for the last x6 years I have been with Orange.

If they wanted to save money if people really don't look at their bills they should have made an itemised bill a free opt-in service. Instead I shall be interested to see how many people go ballistic when they find an extra £1.50 added to their bill next month because they have not opted out. Mind you, if people really don't check their bills then most people probably won't notice.

I imagine Orange are rubbing their hands. If they have one million customers that is a lot of extra revenue coming their way.

So, what mobile phone company can anyone suggest I switch to...?

    Cheers

I bailed out of Orange after they increased the cost of my contract by £10 because, 'we can do what we want' (quote from 'senior' customer service manager).

Even though I threatened to move my other eight contracts I held with them through work away because of it, they still completely refused to budge. So I moved them all, to O2. I'm happy so far, our bills are lower than ever and CS seem OK.

So they lost a customer whos been with Orange for about 8 years and spent over £500 a month with them just for the sake of trying to force me into paying an additional £10 a month that I was not contracted to pay.

Aren't they great. I blame the French...

I am not clear. If one opts out of itemised billing does one get a summary paper bill or not ? For awkward cashback outfits like OSPS, it would seem that one is locked into the need for a paper bill.
  • Yes, as I understand it you do get a summary if you opt out of the itemised bill. So they still have the expense of printing a piece of paper and posting it to you.

All they have 'saved' is the expense of printing another sheet or two with your calls on it. Well, unless you cough up £1.50pm.

lord of the mouse is correct, if you text the word bill to 2018 you will only get a summary bill

has anyone managed to get a response from the retentions department
