I have been a long time lurker on this site for years but barely post (Used a different name - Sammy or something but don't use the e-mail address anymore so can't retrieve my password). As people have correctly stated earlier, the link to this thread is in an e-mail that HGM send you, so now I understand why there are so many new posts.

On to my experience with the company:

I researched different ways that I could sell some gold I have because of financial difficulties. I checked reviews from customers of companies who you send gold to, but wasn't happy with their experiences. I went down Walthamstow High Street which I live near and sold some gold to a jeweller near the pub, and he gave me £380 for a few 9ct rings and that. I had already weighed some of it anyway and thought it should've gone for more but with bills on the way, I'm not really going to moan about it. He even said to me that he'll pay around £23 per gram for gold considering he has to sell it on so I came home looking for alternatives.

Typed "sell gold" into Google and MSE's "Gold selling guide" came up. Read through it and it mentioned that people seemed to be happy with HGM. However, requiring you to send gold by mail meant I was a little skeptical. After reading this thread over the weekend, I decided to take the plunge and sent a small 2.5g gold bar to HGM and see what happens. The site said I'd get £83 for it and that was about right for a 24 carat bar. Sent it off at 10am on Monday. Woke up on Tuesday morning, checked my e-mails and had an e-mail at 10.06am from HGM stating that £83 had been sent to my bank account. Checked my bank account at midday and the funds were there. To say that I was happy would be an understatement.

So on Tuesday afternoon, I decided to cash some more gold. It didn't have a hallmark but I expected around £1,000 - £1,200 for it (Wasn't sure what carat it was but looked like 20 or 22). I put the details into the HGM website as 22 carat and sent it off at 3pm on Tuesday. It arrived Wednesday and got an e-mail around 2.30pm stating that the gold wasn't 22 but 20 carat and whether I'm happy to proceed. I acknowledged that I was fine with that and just got an e-mail saying that £1,140 will be paid into my bank account.

To be honest, the speed and efficiency of the company is simply brilliant. I don't actually have a bad word to say about them and they seem to be very reliable. I just hope that they can maintain these standards over the long term in exchange for customer loyalty. I know I'll definitely be going to HGM again and again because I still have much more to sell. The only thing I would recommend to HGM is to give us the option to come down and hand the gold to you in person. I regularly go past Hatton Garden so it would be much easier for me to just come to you, give you the envelope with my gold inside it, you give me a receipt with its contents on it and then I'll just leave and go on to where I was originally going.

In any case, thank you HGM, you guys are simply excellent. :)

Update: Funds came into my account barely half an hour after the e-mail.

After naively selling antique jewellery for scrap to a dealer some time ago I was reluctant to try this again. After reading the MSE review and the HGM forum I decided to give them a try. Years of stuffing broken chains and earrings in the back of a drawer resulted in over £600 at lunchtime today. The HGM site was informative about how they dealt with items and the amount I received was as calculated yesterday. I sent the package Special Delivery and with the insurance felt the £6.90 was worth the piece of mind. I would definitely recommend them as reliable and speedy :)

Forgot to say the money is already in my bank account. Thank you HGM.
  • When did you use it - 19/09/12
What did you send it - Platinum, Gold, silver (a few bits had small gems on)
How much did it promise you - £526
How much did it deliver - £511.44
How efficient was the service - Very. They received it the next morning (today) and by 10.55am I had the money in my bank. Amazing.
If it didn't deliver the full amount, what was its reason - My weights from my kitchen scales were slightly off (rounded up by .5g), plus the gold value had gone down a tiny bit.
Anything else other people should know - Make sure you get a quote from a jewellers first, so you know roughly what value your items are. But Hattons beat my jewellers by over £50. Very fast and reliable. Make sure you send your items Special Delivery so items are insured if Royal Mail mislay them. A question that always seems to be asked is about the stones. They seem to just take the weight of the whole item and pay you for that weight. I guess if it was a massive heavy stone then they may deduct some.
I am very pleased with the service and have already recommended to my friends and family. If I find any more unwanted Jewellery I will without hessitation be sending it to HGM

Well, I use the ML website all the time but have just registered to use the Forum. This is because I have used Hatton Garden Metals 3 times in the past 3 weeks. I am 49 years old and very sinical BUT they have been absolutely brilliant. I sold our old 9 crt Gold my inlaws 22crt Gold and 9 crt and today some white Gold and Silver. I weighed the items and bagged in "ZIPLOCK" freezer bags and got few "online" quotes. HGM were ultra quick to reply and I posted off my Gold in re-used Jiffy Bags Special Delivery with the quote thing they mailed me. On all 3 times they paid out what they had quoted within a few pounds baring in mind I had weighted it and written on the bags what I had made it. I had one small issue which was not their fault that their reply mails went into my "SPAM" folder but I have sorted this now. I have recommended them to friends now and have just come on here to rate them as 100% reliable which in this day and age is good!:j I have no affiliation to any companies and have been in the Old Bill for 20 years;)

    P.S.
    I sold 95G 9 crt on 10/09/12 week got around £1180.

This for the outlaws 19th Sept
    GOLD 9ct: 50.20 @ £12.58 = £631.49
    GOLD 22ct: 14.70 @ £30.75 = £452.02

and £137 for some old silver and little bit of 9crt today :-)
  • So wait, they buy White Gold? Did you send White Gold to them and they accepted it? Couldn't find an answer to that on their website but want to send some in if they buy it.

White Gold and Yellow Gold are classed as the same. So, for example, 9ct White Gold and 9ct Yellow Gold is weighed together.

I sent in a mix of white and yellow and it was weighed as one.
    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks for the clarification. :)
  • wow ,,,,,,,,a whole page of ``new `` people who only seem to love one thing and thats gold from hatton gardens , must be a slow day to create such spam , shouldnt they be asked to pay for advertising ?
  • When did you use it - 25/09/12
What did you send it - gold ring
How much did it promise you - £177.78
How much did it deliver - £177.78
How efficient was the service - Sent item special delivery at 4:45pm on Tues. money was in my account by 12:30 on weds. Incredible service. I took my ring to a jewellers who dealt in scrap jewellery. He offered me £32 less than I got from Hatton Garden Metals.
In reply to izzzzythedog, when you use this company they email you when your money has been transferred for the sale of your items. They have a link on that email and ask if you would leave feedback if entirely happy with the service. I think people are just doing that because the service is very efficient and simple. I'm not really one for leaving feedback but was suitably impressed to make the effort to do so.
