Hi All,
I used these people today and I'm not impressed. They're crooks! I sent them some scrap gold on Monday, they sent me an email the next day (yesterday) asking me to authorise them to go ahead because there was a discrepancy between weights I'd said I'd sent and what I'd actually sent. Fair enough. I emailed them back this morning and said fine, go ahead.
However, the price of gold on their website this morning was £15.90. They paid me £11.87! How can they justify this? I know the price varies but surely it is the price at the point of sale, i.e. my gold was sold today it should have been sold at today's price? Checked the price later on today and it's still £15.90! Their email never mentioned prices at all just weights of the gold I sent, so it's not unreasonable to assume it would be today's price.
Also there's nowhere on their website for me to email and complain! There's a phone number but I'm working nights so can't ring them. I'm disgusted. If I'd have known they were going to pay such a paltry ammount I would never have used them, but they didn't tell me in advance the price they were going to pay. After taking into account the cost of special delivery and buying a jiffy bag, I would have been better off to take it to the local jewellers (quoted £11 a gram). Buyer beware,

Have used HGM for the third time to sell some silver jewellery and broken gold chains. Sent off using easily completed on-line form. No arguements about weight and paid out at top price. Money was in my bank account before the Post Office tracking system could tell me my package had been delivered!
Cannot fault HGM service or recommend more highly. Anyone using a high street jeweller must be mad!
There may be rip-off gold buying companies out there but my experience is that HGM is not one of them.

Despite not being a member till this post and almost certainly never coming/posting here again, just like every other newbie poster?
Posters like that are actually devaluing the company, not helping them IMO0 -

I cant see the price of 9ct gold going down from £15.90 to just over £11 in one day. That would have been on the news. You must have read it wrong.0 -
£11.78 today?!?
There has been a bit of a collapse since a high point in February.0 -
When did you use it: 18/4/12
What did you send it: Old unwanted gold jewellery
How much did it promise you: £131.12
How much did it deliver: £170.75
How efficient was the service: Brilliant.
I decided to risk using this firm after reading such good reviews on MSE, and I'm glad I did. Yesterday I weighed my old gold on my kitchen scales and made it 11g - I thought it was all 9ct. Then I went on to Hatton Garden Metals website, filled in the form and got their quote of £131.12. Then I followed their instructions for completing, printing and signing the form and sending it off Special D with my jewellery. Today, I received an email from them saying the total weight was actually 11.8g - and 2.3g of that was 18ct gold (not 9ct as I put on the form). So the value was increased to £170.75. The money was in my account by 3pm today, a little more than 24-hours after I first decided to sell my old gold. Also, I phoned HGM yesterday to ask about a diamond that was in one of the rings, they were easy to speak to, very helpful and very honest.
This is the first time I have posted on the MSE site, although I have been using it and following the advice on other subjects for a long time (Euro Car Parks parking tickets + Challenging My Council Tax Banding are ongoing). I hope no-one thinks I am in any way involved with HGM just because I am a 'newbie' posting here for the first time. I am just a normal consumer and a very grateful member of this site.0 -
When did you use it December 2010
What did you send necklaces - 24g
How much did it promise you £180
How much did it deliver £180
How efficient was the service Was OK - money took a while to come through, but all fine in the end.
Anything else other people should know - they don't rush!0 -
Could not fault the service I received from Hatton Garden Metals. Professional from start to finish and probably the fastest online service I have ever used. Sent my scrap 9ct on Thursday and money was in my account by Friday lunchtime. More importantly they pay a fair price of around £12/gram at the moment and providing what you send them is what you say it is, the price you are quoted will be very closet to what you receive. As to a previous forum user claiming that the 9ct scrap price was once £15.90, well that would be very wishful thinking. True the gold price fluctuates on a daily basis but not that much !
Personally I would always stay clear of the high street and use a company that has such consistently good reviews. Give them a try and make your own mind up, I am sure you want be disappointed.0 -
Used April 2012. Posted scrap 9 ct gold and silver Monday lunchtime money in my bank account Tuesday lunchtime. Slightly less than their initial estimate was received as I did not use a proper scales to weigh. Received a lot more than the local jewellers offered. Would highly recommend this company.0
