We just got a press release about a new gold comparison site, comparethegoldmarket.com, in case it's useful. It doesn't include Hatton Garden metals though.0

Presumably, like Direct Line in the insurance market, HGM won't pay a kick back?0

Got paid this morning. Problem with Royal Mail (I think) delivering a day late, I posted it by Special Delivery Next Day on Monday morning but it didn't arrive until Wednesday morning. Then there was (as Loopgames predicted) a problem with it being Indian gold and Gary offered to pay for 20ct instead of the hallmarked ("916") 22ct or have it assayed for a £20 fee. As I was confident of the purity I asked him to go ahead with an assay. The next contact I had was the remittance advice 24 hours later and the money (for 22ct) is in my account. Slight difference in weight - I was paid for 52.1 grams when I weighed it as 52.3. I assume that part of this is to cover the assay fee and the rest might be the accuracy of my scales or some detritus in the watchstrap (which was melted down prior to assay and, presumably, final weighing) or perhaps a sample destroyed during the assay. Anyway I was in no rush and the delay allowed the gold price to increase to actually pay more than I would have got on Tuesday for the full weight. I am an entirely satisfied customer thinking of opening a pawn shop :-)
EDIT: I was confused about my decimal points, 0.2g of 22ct gold is about £5 worth so a small price to pay for a £20 assay.0 -
Yesterday I sent gold jewellery that I no longer wore to Hatton Garden Metals and today I received payment to my bank account. They paid £9.63 per gram which is their advertised price.
Very speedy service and approximately £1.20 more per gram than other cash for gold companies. I no longer wore the old jewellery so I can now purchase something else that I will wear. Very pleased with their service.
I used HGM as it had been mentioned on MoneySavingExpert. Thanks everyone.0 -
Excellent company and so glad I found their details here in the end! I sent my gold to 4 separate companies who advertise on TV and on-line - I got offered between £92 and £180 for it, The same quantity of gold sent to Hatton Garden Metals last Saturday has just netted me £260! I liked the fact that I knew exactly what I was going to get (unlike the other companies) and having just received remittance advice this morning, I have nothing but praise for them. Very pleased indeed,0

When did you use it - May 2010
What did you send it - 92g 9ct gold (old rings and chains), 1g 18ct gold ring, 1g 8ct gold ring, 90g silver
How much did it promise you - £912 for gold only (added silver at last minute) originally weighed on kitchen scales!
How much did it deliver - £958 (including silver)...
How efficient was the service - extremely efficient, I sent the items off by special delivery and received confirmation that payment had been paid to my bank account the following day!
If it didn't deliver the full amount, what was its reason - I over estimated the weight of the gold (used kitchen scales)
Anything else other people should know - take your gold to the local jewellers first then send it to HGM and see how much more money you will receive. The best I was offered locally was £750! The local jewellers will also tell you the weight and carat of the pieces.
Fantastic service... have recommended them to all my friends...0 -
I have just used HGM for the first time and cannot recommend them highly enough.
Posted my scrap gold yesterday (Special Delivery !). HMG acknowledged receipt this morning. Money was in the bank before lunchtime.
Jewellers were offering half the current rate. Cash for Gold guy wasn't much better and underweighed my gold. There's no need to trawl the web, just use this company.:D0 -

OMG! Went to local jewellers yesterday with 18ct ring setting and 9ct bracelet. Was offered £90 for both. Did some searching and found these chaps on MSE and sure enough sent to them yesterday and just logged on to find e mail sent this lunchtime paying just over £200 for them!! Have checked and money already in my bank account.
I was very very sceptical but thought "nothing ventured" etc. Well I have gained.
Just thought you may like to know they are what they seem.:T:T:T0
