Used this company the other day after reading recommendations on this site, very pleased with payment received. Had 2 quotes from local companies and they were up to £150 less. Great service & also liked the way you could get quote before sending item off & they inform you when received. Thanks for your great site...0

I sent a considerably large parcel of Gold to them last Thursday 18th (in the morning), with Royal Mail Special Delivery to be delivered by 9am Friday 19th. Royal Mail said it was delivered on time via parcel tracker, and HGM says on my account on the site:
Status: Received
So they must have it, however other than the two emails when you first sign up to them I haven't heard anything else, and haven't received payment yet, so it could be a scam, im getting a bit nervous now (5 days, when they promise on the site the money will be in your account at least 1 day after receiving), I could understand Monday, but its getting a bit late now. Also I have a normal UK bank account and receive BACS payments instantly, and have double checked all my details. Just thought i'd let you know.
Even some communication to feel comfortable would be nice, however when and if I do get paid i'll give you more details. I thought i'd post this just to warn people because I submitted my gold on the advice of this thread, and it seems like quite a lot may be spam by newbie posters, although i'm a newbie myself i've come here for useful advice before.0 -
Step one check your bank account.
Just Email then with your reference and see what sort of reply you get.
(Don't simply answer any email that seems to have come from HGM, as it just might be from an identity fraud scammer).

If no reply today, try a phone call & then start making a claim against Royal Mail for signatures etc.
(I have a permanent problem with postmen who won't walk 50 yards up my drive to collect a signature. I much prefer that they forge mine rather than put a "while you were out.......go to the sorting office" card in my mail box, which seems to be the other alternative to walking 50 yards.)
Let the rest of us know how you get on.0 -

John is a stalwart defender of Hatton Garden Metals isn't he folks!! vested interest perhaps! Some member of the Public complains that his gold has gone missing and to the rescue leaps John!....touche sir!0 -
...................and he asks for a report back titled "HGM or Post Office have stolen my gold".
My only interest is that I have another consignment for someone and don't want to get into
Munchkins feeling of insecurity.
In dives Emma ?
John
PS I've just found out that a polished up, re-strapped & re-boxed version of "my" gold watch has sold on Ebay for 120 USD after the rejection of offers starting at 75 USD - more details of "my" watch here:

(Kitten Blue's watch sounds too good to scrap to me)
What are your thoughts Emma?0 -

OK, got to stick my oar in.
Emma, why are you stressing? HGM do POSTAL GOLD and you don't. You are trying to tell everyone that you're as good as HGM but you don't provide the same service as they do.
Yes, I have used HGM and yes, I was very happy with them. I sent a really horrible old white gold ring which I thought was 9ct. It turned out to be 18ct and I received a hell of a lot more than I thought I would. They didn't rip me off, the money was in my account before I got the e mail explaining why I'd got more than expected and that alone made me use them again. I then discovered I had another 4 gold rings but DIDN'T send these to HGM because they have stones in them. Dan at HGM called me to tell me what he did with the stones and recommended I sell the rings on Ebay!! I also did all this BEFORE mse Jenny started this thread. I have posted my comments about HGM on another thread but don't know which one because it was so long ago. I found HGM on google, but not before trying other sites. There was only one postal gold site offering more than HGM but the site wasn't as comprehensive as HGM so I opted for the easy route.
I'm glad I did, and I have tried to cadge my mum's odd earrings off her so I can sell them too. I posted a comment on HGM's website saying how happy I was with their service and that I have also recommended them to family. I had to post on here because I'm not a newbie to the forum.
Calm down Emma, you can't slate HGM for providing a service that you don't. That doesn't seem fair. HGM have felt safe about posting a link to MSE on their site because they're good. You only serve the NW of England, face to face, they serve the whole country!!
I live in Bradford btw, nowhere near London. I've never even visited Hatton Garden in London, so you can be assured that I don't work for them, have no affiliations with them, and I don't know anyone who works there!!!Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)0 -
Emma you are doing nothing to promote your business. You sound like a bitter female. Yes, I have used HGM and have been happy with them. Were you to live next door to me, with your attitude I still wouldnt want to use you. May I respectfully suggest you either offer the same service or just belt up, stop whinging and grow up! This thread isn't about you, it's about HGM.
By the way, if you serve over 3 million people then what are you doing on here? You should be flipping busy.0 -
I'm not actually whinging! Re-read my posts carefully. I am not in competition with HGM and I don't have an axe to grind with them. But lets be clear here. MSE is actively promoting the services of HGM and we have already established that they actively encourage happy users....and the rest we don't hear of!!! More to the point it is absolutely beyond me how the Public can expect the best price for their gold when on average 20% of all gold posted cannot be identified as to its carat ie worn/missing/foreign hallmarks etc .Not to mention when gold goes missing a la moneymunchkin above (and no John, that post has nothing to do with me, )
Given that I know HGM's profit margin (approximately) I repeat again that without these mis-identified carats they probably wouldn't make a net profit. What is protecting the customer in the postal gold scenario? We hand our customers our eye glasses so they can check each carat. we show them the results on our laser gun (for detecting gold percentages) What checks are in place to safeguard the Public re postal gold ? Anecdotal posts saying "Oh yes they did point out that I had an 18 carat ring." etc are not enough by any stretch of the imagination. Check the maths in the example I gave above and see for yourselves. IMO posting off gold is like going into a new private bank with a wad of unfamiliar money, telling the cashier that you don't know what you have and then leaving, relying on the cashier to be honest and credit the right amount of money into the account ..."You cannot be serious"" Postal gold should be regulated!!!
I am against the whole concept of postal gold ... Again I repeat get someone round, get them to show you each hallmark/test the gold in front of you so you know what you really have and demand a good price. There ARE good companies out there, but MSE will not allow them a voice on here! The comments are labelled spam and removed.
What I really want to know is how HGM ask customers to post on this site. Are they paid to do so? Are they encouraged in some way if they say they are pleased with the service. What about customers who are less than satisfied? Are they given equal encouragement to post?
But I am clearly upsetting everyone here so I wont be posting again. Well not on this thread0 -
Er hello...we, as in the members of MSE, are promoting HGM by receiving a service we, their customers, are happy with. Now stop throwing your toys out of the pram with the "its not fair" attitude. If you are brave enough then put a satisfaction link on here to your website. Lets see how good your customers think you are.
So, Im sorry if this sounds unpleasant, but stop complaining. We are happy with HGM, you however, are stamping your feet and it's hardly the actions of a professional individual. HGM are a business. They are not in this to be nice to us, they are in it to make money. We are in it to make money. If there is a happy medium then what is your problem?
It's a free board. Anyone can post anything, good or bad. There is no conspiracy, no green men will be coming to collect us and no, 9-11 didnt happen as a result of the USA blowing up their own planes.0
