  • I weighed and posted off gold to HGM on Friday. My gold weighed 38grams according to my scales. Today I received £324.11 in my bank account which amounted to 37.4 grams. Brilliant !!!! What a fantastic service, after lots of initial research the reviews I read were true!!!! Don't go anywhere else.:j

    Hi
I posted off my gold yesterday, 8 March.
    20.8g 9ct, 12.9g 18ct, £401.69 paid into my account this morning.
Very easy, very fair, highly recommended.

I finally got around to sorting out my jewellery and posted it off yesterday.
It was all 9ct, mainly from my 18th and 21st birthdays, not very weighty the kind of stuff you get from Argos!
I'd weighed it on my ASDA smartprice scales and it was just over 10g but there were a couple of items that had (tiny) stones in them, so I put the weight down as 10g and sent it off yesterday.
Got an email this afternoon to say I had 12.7g @ £8.62 and the money is now in my account.
    Very happy!

Emma200861 I appreciate what you are saying, but I dont think HGM are a rip off. I wouldnt know where to find a 'local' gold bullion dealer so would have to resort to traipsing around jewellers. I dont agree that MSE are keen to advertise postal gold companies. They are simply providing a place for people to give their own experiences, good or bad, so that others can make an informed choice. As someone who works 5 days a week, its been easier to send my gold off to HGM than to make a secial trip into town. Their website tells you the price of the gold, you weigh it yourself, and they accurately weigh it on receipt. No problems.

Then why isn't my company and many others who pay the same rate as HGM featured, or allowed to be featured or named on this website!!
Secondly your kitchen scales obviously were way out. If you look at some of the amounts mentioned on this thread, you will note that there are under-weighings and more than necessary deductions in weight for stones etc.

Its a shame that this thread to basically tell others of personal dealings with HGM....good or bad, has been hijacked by others in the trade ! This defeats the whole object of feedback. It must be noted that virtually everyone who has dealt with them IS happy..myself included (after reading about them on MSE site).Sending off a load of old and broken bits of gold and receiving exactly what was expected in my bank the next day,WITH loads of communication is honourable and obviously to be recommended.

A firm called Lois has its own small fan club thread.
HGM have been clever enough to tell its customers:- If you like the service tell MSE.

Why not be brave enough to ask you customers to do the same ? BUT you need to start with a MSE established member or the thread will get taken down as spam.

(Now about this gold you are going to pay me over the odds for...........;))

I have some unwanted gold that I'd like to send to this company but their online form asks you to specify weights and cts - problem is whilst I suspect most to be 9ct I think some may actually be 18ct (or more). What should I advise on the form? If I'm mistaken I don't want them to think I'm trying to rip them off but in the same respect I don't want them to 'short change' me if I list all as only 9ct.

Exactly! I didnt expect my scales to weigh very accurately, but doesnt this just prove that HGM dont rip you off?

I dont know how or why HGM were mentioned on this site. I've never seen them advertise anywhere and I only heard about them from another thread on another forum on this site, I'm just glad that I did :)
From your post it appears you dont agree with people sending gold off via the post office and that you offer a 'face to face' service. Which is fine, but will limit the amount of business you are likely to get from this forum.

As John_Pierpoint says, why not encourage customers to recommend you via this site or speak to someone at MSE towers to request that you can be added to the forum and have your own thread.

I also agree with milzee123, its a shame this thread has been hijacked.

Get a BIG magnifying class, or one that jewellers use, or a microscope and look very carefully at your gold - I'll bet you find either 24 22 18 14 9 or perhaps something in between stamped on it or alternatively something like 375 representing the percentage of the gold in this case 9CT = 37.5% gold.

There are lots more such sites that Google can find for you.

In my sale I put the bits of gold on my scanner and took a colour picture of the them. I would put a copy in with your documentation and ask any questions pointing at the item.
I don't think HGM would rip you off - there have been examples on this thread where the gold turned out to be plated and HGM themselves have some horror stories on their web site. I particularly remember those gold bangles that Indian women wear, turning out to be a clever bit of gold plated copper.
  • I was very wary about using this kind of service to sell my gold, but after reading all the great reviews about Hatton Garden Metals, I decided to go for it. My gold was quoted by a couple of local Jewellers at £150 for 22.5g, which did seem low compared to the price comparisons on the internet. I posted my jewellery yesterday at 3pm, which cost £4.95 for Special Delivery and at 12.38pm today I was advised that they had paid me £190.58, although the daily price had dropped slightly from yesterday I still received a much better price than if I'd have sold to my local Jeweller.

I highly recommend using this company to sell your gold, infact I have already given the details of Hatton Garden Metals to a work colleague who is thinking about selling some gold.
