  • I read the article yesterday on MSE website about selling old gold. I searched out my old 80's hooped earings and broken chains, followed the instructions on Hatton Metals website and posted off my envelope yesterday at 2:30 pm.
Whoopie today I have had an email from Hatton Metals, £554.
Exactly the same as the online quote.

The reason I'm posting on this thread (i never usually post in forums on the internet) is because reading other people's feedback allowed me to send off my gold ring to Hatton's and feel confident that I was not going to get ripped off.
I followed the advice and sent it special delivery (£6.22) and received £80.82 into my bank account the next day :-)
My only negative thing - i had my ring weighed at a jeweller's at 3.77grams and also entered the code that Martin talked about for another 1%. I was meant to receive £82 (something) but they weighed the ring at 3.70g and i don't think the 1% was put on (but couldn't swear to it).
However, all in all, i would highly recommend Hatton's, i got the best price (over £20 more than the 2 jeweller's offered me in my home town) and I'm over the moon that the ring I had had in a jewellery box for 20 years and never worn has come up trumps. I'm going to put it towards my moving house costs :-)
    Many thanks.
  • I saw the recommendation for Hatton Metals on the MSE site and sent some old gold off yesterday. I posted it at 1pm and the money was in my account by 11am this morning - excellent service. I sent off just under 26grams for which they paid approx. £270. Brilliant service - I am so pleased.

In their remittance email they ask you to recommend them if you are pleased with their service and there is actually a link directly to this thread to do just that - perhaps this is why there are so many first time posters. I am not new to this site, though I have only posted twice myself before but I think that certainly these days people need a bit of reassurance about who they are dealing with and if by giving some feedback this will help others then why not? Also good service needs to be shared - just saying x
  • I posted my gold yesterday by special delivery at 4.00pm (cost £10), 24hrs later £1200 was deposited into my bank account. Twice as much as the local jeweller had quoted me yesterday. I was a little apprehensive sending so much gold off in the post but it was fine. Fantastic service!

:T1st class service. Friendly, helpful and professional staff. I sent some scrap gold and silver by special delivery yesterday, the money was in my bank account today. The price was almost the same as quote only adjusted minimally to account for a wire in a bangle I had sent. Got £416 where Ramsdens only offered me £100.Would definitely use again. Honest and trustworthy service.

I too am sceptical about lots of the postings by newbies, whilst I admit they do offer a good service, I am a little surprised at the values they are giving back,

I posted an amount yesterday = got an email today stating that the items where less than half the weight I had sent (admittedly I used kitchens scales was expecting to have a reduction of a few grams (5 tops))

currently waiting for email reply as I had checked all of the items and that they had hallmarks

    @@@@ UPDATE

after an exchange of emails, any queries I had have been resolved

  • Used HGM for the first time and I am so impressed by the service. I am naturally sceptical about using these types of sites, but I decided to give it a go after reading all the positive customer feedback. I went online and registered yesterday. I had 70g of 9k gold to sell & was quoted £707, which was about 25% more than local jewellers were offering me. Sent package by special delivery yesterday & the money, £715, was in my account by lunchtime today! What a fantastic service. I will not think twice about using HGM again, if I can dig out anymore gold jewellery!! You can shop around' but I would be surprised if you could match their offer.
  • I am a sceptic by nature, but decided to give it a go after feeling like local jewellers were out to fleece me.
Credit where credits due HMG offered over £3/g more than local jewellers & money was in my account the day after items were posted.
