I have an old bracelet which I was never sure was actually gold or not. I have had it for about 25 years. Took it into local jewellers to check whether it was gold or not and left it with them for about a week. I really didn't rush as I believed it was probably worthless. Went in today to find it is 18ct and weighs 80gms!! They offered £800!!!! Just logged HGM for an estimate.... £1252 yeah but they are closed until Jan 4th. Guess it I can wait, what is a few days when I have had it 25 years. :)
I USED TO BE INDECISIVE BUT NOW I'M NOT SO SURE!

Rich people tell you that money doesn't bring you happiness just so the poor people don't feel jealous.

I'm thinking of sending my old gold to HGM but I was wondering what do I do with any jewellery that has stones? I've got several items with diamonds, what happends to these? Do I just lose them?

    Thanks in advance :)

"Please note that if you have requested to have non-gold items returned or held on file that this does not include stones that may have to be removed. In most cases stones are either hammered or crushed out and in some cases stones that can't be removed are melted with the gold. This makes it impossible for us to return stones. If you wish to keep the stones we advise that you have these stones removed before you send in your items for scrapping. Hatton Garden Metals will not be held responsible for any stones that you leave in with your items."

    Just had an email! :j
One item I sent was 9ct, not 18ct gold as I had been told, but gold price has gone up a bit today so the total is still a bit more than I was expecting. :T

Money arrived in bank account about half an hour after the email! :j

When did you use it Items sent 4th Jan
What did you send it Mainly 9ct, some 18ct and 22ct gold jewellery and a full sovereign
How much did it promise you Quoted £1119.45
How much did it deliver £1130.28 (see comment above)
How efficient was the service Excellent - but a bit nerve-wracking having to send in the post and waiting to hear!
If it didn't deliver the full amount, what was its reason see comment above

Hatton Garden’s service was exactly as I expected from comments both on here and other forums.

When did you use it: posted SD on Jan 4
What did you send: 128g x 9ct (including some stones/non-gold elements of charms), 5g x 14ct, 11g x 18ct and 12g of “not sure” (miniscule marks) – all weighed on kitchen scales

How much did it promise you: I calculated somewhere between £1100 and £1300 depending on the “not sure” and the weight of non-gold bits
How much did it deliver: £1228.23 paid by BACS today
How efficient was the service: 24 hours from despatch to payment, as promised
If it didn't deliver the full amount, what was its reason: see above, plus their scales are a bit more accurate than mine!

I sent items which I’d inherited but would never wear plus things I’d bought but would never wear again; I’ll be reinvesting the money in jewellery I will wear. And if anything else turns up, I’d be happy to use them again.

I decided to use Hatton's after spending quite a bit of time reading plenty of negative reviews relating to other advertised scrap gold buyers. I weighed my small pile of scrap gold on ordinary kitchen scales and estimated it to be 81.grams and worth £644 at their promised gold price rate on the day I posted it, Monday 4th Jan. On the morning of Tuesday the 5th I received a remittance email from Hattons stating that they had assesed the weight at 80.4 grams and had already transferred £645.61 into my bank account, their scrap price value had risen overnight by a small amount. I was extremely impressed by the efficiency and the price I was paid, the 0.6 gram difference was neither here nor there and no doubt down to my own kitchen scales innacuracy. A brilliant way of selling, no hassle, price better than expected and most importantly no need to be wandering about town searching and haggling for the best deal.
