Well I've been watching the gold price drop slightly this week after hitting a peek of around £8.50 last week for 9 carat (IIRC), Hatton's are today offering £7.91. I decided to send off my gold in case it falls any further - hopefully it might bounce back slightly tomorrow when I am due to be paid. :xmassmile

Against my better judgement, I decided to give my bank details so they can pay me by BACS and I get my money straight away.

I was just wondering, for those who have posted their gold (to wherever) how much on average would you say the packaging adds to the weight of your parcel (ie the weight recorded on your PO receipt against the weight of the actual gold you were paid for)?

I didn't have any accurate scales, and I'd already packaged up my gold when I took it to the PO (which recorded the overall package as weighing 73g). So how much do you reckon a small Jiffy "lite" padded envelope, plus a 2 page email with staple, sticky address label, return label and postage/special delivery labels would weigh?

I'll report back tomorrow when I hear from Hatton (sorry, no prizes for correct guesses - it's just for fun ;):p).
  • Ianonline, BACS is totally safe, on any site !! Please see my post above. There really is no need to worry.

I've no worries at all about BACS. Like I said above, my only concern was sending personal details over an unsecure connection. I'm sure if a fraudster intercepted the message, they could do some damage, knowing my full name, address and bank details (hence that most companies tend to conceal part of your bank account number when they send you a confirmation email etc). But as you rightly point out, these concerns could equally apply to sending information through the post if the mail were to be infiltrated.

Anyway, as I said, I've done the deed now, so hopefully I'll have a few extra quid in my bank account by tomorrow ....... bring on the weekend
  • i had sent 23 g of gold of to cash 4 gold and they sent a cheque for £43 by then i had heard of HGM and used there calculator when i called c4g and told them the price differnce they would not budge so i got my gold back, found a few more items so it now weighed 25g sent it of yesterday the 10th dec and this morning have received £200 into my bank account.

Well, I've just had my confirmation email from Hatton - they actually include a link to this thread in their email and encourage people to post their experiences (obviously very good free publicity for them, but it's also an added incentive for them to make sure they're doing their job properly - and they clearly are :T). This also explains why a lot of newbies post in this thread.

A lot of companies could do well to take a leaf out of Hatton's book. They really do seem to just get on with the job - no nonsense, no messing about, and with incredible efficiency. I know I'm starting to sound like an advert for them, but as you can see, I'm an old time MSE'r and have no affiliation with them. I'd actually be interested to hear from anyone whose had a NEGATIVE experience with Hatton, as I've yet to read a bad report and it's very rare for ANY company to have a totally unblemished record when it comes to customer service.

Anyway, I got paid for 41.20g of gold (reduced because of a non-gold locket). The good news is that the price is up slightly from yesterday at £8/g (9ct) so I'm due to be paid £329.60. Not in my bank yet, but should hopefully be there later this afternoon. :D
  • Ive got to commend the op and the company for this! I sent off a few pieces of broken gold t i had and recieved £293 for it this is the same gold that a dealer near me offered £20 for!

Just waiting for the money to appear in my account now!

    Thanks
  • Hi,
I'm new to this forum and have some gold to sell so have been reading the feedback of many of these companies with interest, Hatton Garden Metals being one of them.
My question is a general question that would apply to all of these companies.
I don't think I've seem anything mentioned about the stones that are extracted from the pieces of jewellery that are sent in. Obviously there must be a high number of quality diamonds, rubies, sapphires etc amongst this 'scrap'. Do these companies treat these as freebies?? Are these stones their perks??
As a couple of my items have diamonds in them, I shall be extracting these myself unless I know for sure that I will be receiving the appropriate price for the quality of diamonds ON TOP of the price for my gold.
Does anyone have any information regarding this?
Best wishes and look forward to any answers!!

    Hurrah for "faster payments". :T
