apprentice_tycoon wrote:I agree with jo_b, if you didn't know that the seller was so experienced you'd say that it was a newbie that hadn't realised what the postage costs can be. It seems so odd that he was reducing and undercutting without keeping an eye on the weight.
As a newbie it's an easy mistake to make because you're not necessarily aware of how much it can cost to post heavy items.
As a more experienced seller it's still an easy mistake to make because your stock grows and you can forget how heavy books that you listed a while ago are. Also, if the seller is constantly undercutting it becomes a more likely mistake to make.
The seller should have fulfilled his order and learnt from the experience. Otherwise he lets us all down and buyers will not return to marketplace.AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0077 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the ebay and other auctions, car boot and jumble sales board.0 -
spurred on by heavvy books and low pricing, i went through all my books and checked their pricing against others, some i got to put higher as soon as i realised that the low price was from a new seller and other people were more realistically priced
also im now in my 2nd month of an ebay shop and havent sold anything on there for a couple of weeks - so i think im not keeping it once august hits - it was only really to clear more general clutterSee the stars they’re shining brightEverything’s alright tonight0 -
Hey guys im new 2 amazon, just registered 2day i put a book on for sale at £10.00, and if the book sells (touch wood) they ganna charge me £2.68, for the amazon.co.uk marketplace fee.and also 40p for VAT.
Is this normal or have i done something wrong?
Please post0 -
Hi nads87 (we have another nads so we'll have to remember your numbers)
The fees are hefty but all least they are only charged if the book sells unlike ebay where your are charged regardless. Don't forget you can leave your book to sell for as long as you like for free.
If you haven't read the first post on this thread then can I suggest they you do now because if your book is a heavy one then you could be out of pocket on the whole transaction.0 -

Hi Nads
If you have priced the book at £10, the buyer will pay £10 + £2.75 P&P, and Amazon will give you £9.67 (sorry had to edit - got it wrong first time round).
You should see all of this information on the last page before you press the 'submit listing' button. The full breakdown of fees is on there. It also comes through on the Listing Confirmation email.
The fees may be higher than ebay, but payment is instant and there's no waiting around before you can despatch the book wondering if you're going to be paid.
Also, as AT says, listing is free until the item is sold - excellent value.

Hi Nads welcome to the ever growing Amazon thread.
AT and funkyfunkymonkey have explained the position re fees very well. Adding in the postage charge also explains the very many 1p book you come across.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Way to go AT....I just don't have the room to store 1p books, although I have relented and kept back half a dozen or so over the past few weeks that I could sell as 'excellent' condition.

bother - remember my saga of the very late refund request from amazon
well karma says that now ive got an ebayer asking for one - on an item of clothing they bought as a "gift" (who buys work clothes as gifts??)
anyhow they say its damaged - i havent the heart to argue it out this time so just told them it wasnt damaged when i sent it, but to return it for a refund ~(and yes ill be checking its the same item when it returns)
serrves me right i guessSee the stars they’re shining brightEverything’s alright tonight0
