Evening all, my sales have gone mad. I have just had my 8th sale in 4days. Everytime I return from the Post Office I get another email. I shouldn't complain but its doing my head in, the last one I had has been the only worth while sale! THis is good going consider I have just over 100listings.

I must make an effort to get to our local auction after reading all your posts.

have now got to go hunting, packing and stamping - shouldn't grumble I guess.
Snap, I was posting my grumble at the same time:p . I'll be back next week grumbling when my sales have dried up.

  • The SKUs are at the front of the description and it's the first thing that the buyer sees

    Hi AT

Not wishing to contradict you, but I could not live without my SKU's. The buyer does not see them when they view the book description unless they go in via a shop and look at a particular book.

This is an example of a book with an sku:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/detail/offer-listing/-/000664628X/used/ref=sdp_used/202-9632378-2627849

This is the same book with the view where you can see the sku:

    http://s1.amazon.co.uk/exec/varzea/ts/exchange-glance/Y05Y4752887Y7473170/202-9632378-2627849

    zShops ID: 0627B513294
    SKU number: 34c276654

I'm not sure how this seller uses his sku's, but based on the z shop id you can see that he listed it on 27th June (0627).

My guess is that it is on shelf 34, box c (or shelf c box 34), listed 27th June, book no 654.

The previous book that he listed was no 650 and put in the same box, looks like he's already sold a few today.

In my sku I include the weight of the book as well as the box no it is stored in, I use the date and other variables to make it unique to every book.

I like to keep the weight visible to me so that when I change prices (yeah right like I ever find the time !!!) I don't make any silly mistakes.

Anyway, going off line for a bit (to sort out my sales) I'll be back later - I've got some ideas on speed listing for the new bulk buyers out there - 'cos all the time the books aren't listed they're not selling.

OMG, it's a fine artform!! Hats off to you.

All these people with methods for finding these pesky books, right down to the weight!! put me to shame :o

Every time I go to my spare room wardrobe with piles of books in absolutely no order, two rows deep so that I can't see the back row without moving the front row, I think I really must sort this mess out. Haven't not been able to find a book yet though. Just as well I've only got a couple of hundred listed!! Got a baby due in October though and have a million other things that need sorting first though - Amazon stuff will have to wait.

Just to add that things have really taken off for me too this week. How strange that we all seem to be reporting increased activity. Why this week in particular???

I think activity has increased. I have sold 22 books in the last 7 days, the previous 7 days to that was only 11 so I've doubled my sales, I have 400 listed.
Just won 118 books on ebay for £9.99 - got to pick them up at the weekend just waiting for seller to contact me. Odd thing no -one else bid for them - I hope it was because it was collection and not because the seller was bad (feedback was good) I looked at some of books on Amazon and most of those were selling at good prices so lets hope my first wholesale purchase turns out to be a good one. BTW coming to end of my third '2 weeks' of selling and my earnings have increased each time which is pleasing. Just trying to concentrate now on increasing my stock at low purchase prices.

If you buy a load of books at a school fete or say a pallet of books and some of them are not worth listing, how do you deal with the book price per item for tax purposes. Eg. 30 books from a fete costing £10 - only 20 are saleable, would you then divide the £10 by 20, so each book cost you 50p.

Or irrespective of how many are saleable do you list the amount you paid for the books, even though some may go to the charity shop??

I am just wondering how detailed your accounts must be, ie. amount spent in bulk or is it per item?

    Hope this makes sense.

Since my BIG MOAN I've sold an expensive (£15-£30 ish) book every day. I don't mind low numbers if prices are high :)
