we are moving to a place that has a garage in the next few weeks and the garage is going to be my book store. Yeah!! I aspire to what you are doing.

    Hi Kaminari,

I take it the landlord decided not to turn the garage into a studio flat then? Glad to hear you were able to get the space you need.

My problem is I have enough space to store lots but not much time as I have 2 jobs at the moment. Got to get rid of some more debt first then get some time to devote to the books - the bug has bitten bad ;) . Whinge is, not sold anything for 9 days missing those SDN emails  .

Yes, looks that way, the announcement says it was resolved timed at about 10pm.

I've asked this before, and have to ask again... those storing books in garages and sheds, do you cover the books as well (AT has mentioned before that she clingfilms them)? I must live in slug and creepy crawly central here, I couldn't risk leaving my books in a garage/shed because they would be slithered over or covered in cobwebs the next day! Sealed plastic boxes like AT mentioned recently would work, but not the fruit boxes? Hubby has brought home some bread crates for me to use for storage, but they won't be going in the garage!!

  • I bought some new clear/ whiteish plastic crates with lids at a boot sale (they were seconds so only £1.99 each) because of my severe storage problems namely - my son wants his bedroom back soon when he comes home from Uni.
I've squirreled boxes of books everywhere in the house, garage and shed and now I've got them in the greenhouse, yes, you read correctly, the greenhouse. There are no plants in there, just stuff that I'm storing (I mystify myself sometimes and my poor husband thinks he's married a headcase) so lidded plastic boxes were essential, I've got them covered up to protect them from the sun. I still clingfilm them if they are new or as new so that they still look great when they get posted, even if it's months later
  • Sold another 3 items from my eBay Shop today - that's 4 since I started on Sunday.

No more sales on Amazon though, although I did get a question about an item so maybe that will sell now?

    Can someone help me!
    What is SKU.
I am a pro merchant and I have 1200 books coming tomorrow, and would like to be able to find the bugg**s once I have listed them. I realise it's too late for the 1500 I havo on now. But could help out this lot and any future lots.
    Thanks.

  • Hi Matt, I would love to be a fly on the wall when that lot turns up!

The SKU (stock keeping unit) is your code for how and where you store your books, it's entirely up to you how you fill this in, I tried using it but gave up because you need a different code for every book, I was happy with either using the date I listed them for a group of books or the number of the box they were stored in so I have a better system now.

The SKUs are at the front of the description and it's the first thing that the buyer sees, with the big sellers they list all sorts of junk like the size of the book etc before the buyer actually clicks on the description and sees the stuff that they want to see, they might not even bother clicking to see the whole description because it's so dry and dull and full of flipping book seller jargon like the one that came up the other day 'what's an FEP?' front end paper was the answer we got, how is a buyer supposed to know this? - so -

What I do is at the end of the description I put 'ref xxxx' so you'd either use the date of listing as your code if you fill a box as you go along or put your box number or shelf number etc so when you get your sold email you click on the link to your original description and there is your 'map reference' to locate the book.

In addition to that I've photographed every box and have these photos printed out as full A4 pix and I can locate a book by photo before I go to fetch it, when I add one more to that box I write it on the back of the pix, and if I get lots of in and outs on a box I'll take a new photo

edit to say - the ref code is great for the ones you list from now on - the photo idea works on the previous ones you've listed without any code to locate them

My sales have been consistently good on ebay, much better than Amazon. As there is this 5p BIN day on Thursday I was thinking of listing some more books on ebay in all categories as a sort of advert for my ebay shop to get more sales. I still list everything on Amazon as well though as I get the odd unexpected sale on there and of course it doesn't cost me to keep several hundred listed, which is great.

  • Just wondering what all the big stock holders do about insuring the stuff if it goes up in smoke etc....I have my books and ebay stuff here at home and the most I do is cross my fingers and hope nothing happens
