This was posted on the Amazon Discussion Board. It looks interesting although I prefer to support my local post office by buying stamps, doing it myself and posting into post boxes.

The certificates of posting come out a ridiculous size (a whole sheet of A4), and as far as I can see you have to pay for each one individually, and can't pay in a lump at the end of the week or whatever.

But other than that, it's great!

  • can't really see why you'd bother to use the service if you are going to go to the PO anyway.

I rarely go to the PO, I buy my stamps once or twice a month and put the packets in the post box at the end of my road. If I have a load or they are large I meet the postman at 6pm when he empties the box.

I don't bother with a COP, I've only lost a handful of items, not worth the time and effort.

Having said that, I still won't be using the service because I like to spend my money at the local PO, we had to fight long and hard to get it replaced when the last one was forced to close.

Books tend to go 'missing' when addressed to multi-occupancy dwellings, or if the address is not quite right - why do some buyers not know where they live? I guess that is one of life's mysteries

Same here, I only bother with COPs if the item is worth a good deal of money - and what I deem as a good deal of money can fluctuate depending on how lazy I'm feeling! I've only lost one item which came back to me eventually anyway and the buyer accepted responsibility for the address mistake so I only refunded the cost of the book.

The problem with my PO is that it is a short drive away and I found that petrol costs were mounting up. So like you, I started buying stamps and putting parcels in the box at the end of my road.

However, with this online thing, I think I may be using that from now on, not being so loyal to my nearest PO I'm afraid.

    Have they upset you?

I've found different PO's can be quite variable in the friendliness of staff, quality of service etc.

Also, who is the face in your avatar? (I'm guessing it's someone famous and I'm just to dumb to know who it is)

No, they've done nowt to upset me at all, just a convenience thing really plus I have a 3 year old that will never stand with me whilst I'm queueing and disappears where I can't see her

No, nobody famous as far as I'm aware, just kind of summed up how I feel most of the time trying to keep on top of everything!!

I have the same problem with the Post Office. Its quite a few miles awway. i also have a 3yr old and a 17mth old so it can be such a hassle for a small amount of money. I do occassionally weigh the books on my scales and post them if I have stamps in my purse.
For those who do this regualrly, what stamps do you buy? I always end up putting on more postage than needed as I usually only have 1st/2nd class stamps.
Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!

    I buy supplies of 50p, 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p and 1p stamps.

But do check out funky's link as it is perfect for people like us. I've got number 2 baby due in October, so it's going to get more inconvenient rather than less so.

You do have to pay for amounts less than £3.50 on credit card rather than debit card, but that's ok my end as I've got a 0% cashback card so no worries there.

Suits me fine as I don't seem to be selling more than about one item a week...... if that. Certainly never more than one at a time these days.
