The Great 'Student Discounts' hunt

I have been a subscriber to the email for ages but have never had the courage to post snything!! I just got a good mobile phone deal from studentphones. I haven't actually started my course yet but they didn't seem to check whether you are really a student. It's 11 month free line rental on a 12 month Orange contract which is very cheap compared with high street. Its a motorola SLVR which is a cool phone and it's "factory reconditioned" which I was a bit worried about but they give a 12 month guarantee. I got it delivered yesterday in the post and there is a small scratch on the corner of the handset and it came in a plain cardboard box but it seems to work fine. The documents have the carphone warehouse logo at the bottom so i guess they must own studentphones. The link is:

MKOne offer 10% with a NUS card.
i've found that if i just ask in every shop i buy something then it's surprising how many shops offer at least 10%, they just don't like to advertise this.0 -

Went into my local Staples yesterday and they've cancelled student discount. I asked why and he said, "just wasn't popular". Sureley they're making themselves more unpopular by not having it??

HSBC now provide there own student card which is free which gets you discounts at the likes of the Pier, BSM and a few others. It's alot like the graduate card you can get but they allow students to get the discounts.0

There seems to be less unity than ever when it comes to student discounts/cards/schemes etc.
Oh, by the way, I've often blagged a bit of a discount when buying things off eBay/Gumtree.com by emailing them saying I'm a student before buying. I managed to squeeze an extra £20 off a new phone. It's worth a go anyway.0 -

I got a 10% discount just yesterday - didn't even need my NUS card. On previous occasions I've shown my uni library card and got the discount.0 -
Colemans (the stationery people, not the mustard people) offer student discount (I think it's 10%) and right now there's a special double student discount promotion happening.
I'm a bit annoyed with the NUS making us pay for discounts this year... does anyone know of a reliable website dealing with non-NUS student discounts?0
