I would rather have HGVs taking up 2 lanes of a motorway than driving through my local towns and villages. Surely thats why mororways were built, to get traffic away from the populated areas?0

I don't think so, the HGV's are the lifeblood of the country, yes theres good and bad in all walks of life but don't tar them all with the same brush.
Not sure why you're quoting me. I'm not tarring anyone with any brush......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I heard of someone who 'deals' with middle lane hoggers by circling them if its a quiet road, ie overtakes them then pulls into nearside lane until the hogger overtakes them and repeat until the hogger gets the message.:DWHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
Blimey what was that ?
That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.0 -

It was why they were built in the first place to help the transportation of goods. And yes the lady in the avatar is me

I was on the M53 last week, middle of the day, traffic flowing ok. 2 HGV's in lane one. 2nd lorry decides it wants to overtake first one, so pulls out into lane 2. My my own benefit I slowed down and followed behind these two lorries to see how long it took to get past. It took just under two miles to get past them. Thats two whole miles of traffic being forced to slow down. Two wholes miles of slower traffic causing traffic jams further back.
HGV's should be made to stay in lane 1.
Thats my rant over.
Pity Conor isn't here to tell me otherwise...

HGVs taking up two lanes on the motorway is much more preferable than HGVs taking up two lanes on a duel carrageway. on a hill.

I won't mention this to my OH as middle lane hoggers are one of his pet hates & I could imagine him doing this!0 -

Which is exactly what I was talking about - the bottleneck effect...0 -

The quest of the lorry who tries to overtake to gain a 30 second less journey time than another lorry causes much longer delays to others.
When you realise about places like Tesco distribution centres, who will turn the goods away on a lorry if they turn up more than half an hour earlier or half an hour later than the planned booked time and the products you buy arent on the shelf because of this reason. So wasted fuel, wasted time and who bears the brunt of this, its the consumer it is passed on to, so yes it may seem silly for a lorry to overtake one to get a 30 second headstart, but you also have to think about momentum, if a lorry keeps slowing down it loses momentum and it takes longer to get up to speed again, again wasting fuel. So thats why they overtake each other. And yes the lady in the avatar is me

But if they all stick to their limited 56mph and keep a safe distance then they will all trvel smoothly like a train.
However, I've yet to see a HGV driver keep a safe distance... And yes I know they can see over the tops of the cars infront, but even so...0
