Then bloody well get in lane three at 70mph and leave 'em for dust!!!!
Jeez talk about common sense not being very common!

If you spend time on the busier motorways you will see that it is not one HGV your taking over ...
It is a line of vehicles passing another line of vehicles, with lane 3 filled to capacity and travelling at much the same speed as the other 2 ...No leaving anything for dust :(
The M42 works (active traffic management and hard shoulder becomes an extra lane )

We cant because of the 1000's of cars stuck behind the "duel". Not enough room in lane 3 for everyone.

Its called reading the road ahead, anticipation, not bunching up the car in fronts @ rse then realising oh theres a queue ahead
And yes the lady in the avatar is me

  • Then surely HGV drivers (remembering they are "highly trained" as they like to remind us) should know better and not sit right behind another HGV.../

But once you pass the bottleneck of the two lorries passing each other, then you can use all 3 lanes

I think the bottleneck you are referring to is Birmingham :)

Actually it's not. I spend most of my days on the busiest motorways, and "leaving lorries for dust at 70mph" would be useful. Unfortunatley I usually can't due to lorries and their pathetic, selfish attitude.

The quest of the lorry who tries to overtake to gain a 30 second less journey time than another lorry causes much longer delays to others.

If all HGV's used the inside lane only, it would have to be re-named Lorry Park on the M62.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • I think the main problem with lorries overtaking is that it makes drivers who drive slow think that they need to go into the third lane and sit there at 70mph while people driving behind want to get past. I know it's open to debate but I think if people behind you want to break the speed then it's their business and it's good manners to pull in, let them past and pull back out again as and when.

yes and on the same token car drivers shouldnt leave it to 20 yards to the exit slip, then decide oh its my exit and careering into lane one causing many lorries to have to break harshly causing some to jack-knife, causing major tailbacks.

I saw one car driver try to pull across from lane 3 into lane 1 trying to muscle his way into lane 1 in front of a HGV, but the HGV wouldnt let him in so he had to carry on and use the next exit, priceless!!!!

Well lets ban all HGVs on motorways and let people drive to collect their food, clothes, medicines etc, would all the cars on the road not encounter traffic? I don't think so, the HGV's are the lifeblood of the country, yes theres good and bad in all walks of life but don't tar them all with the same brush.
