why are there such horrible people in the world,2 years ago my next door neighbour and I both got a kitten, brother and sister, her next door neigbour the other way was really annoyed as he hates cats and told us he was going to shoot or poison them,at the time I just thought he was all talk, then when her kitten was about 8months old it ran away and was found dead, she thought it had been poisoned or killed but I wasnt convinced as she never took it to the vets,I thought anything could have happened to it.
This man never speaks to me ,but yesterday he went out of his way to say hello to me ,all smiles and looking smug,I thought this was strange but didnt think to much about it.
This morning I have got up and my cat had Diarrhea all over the floor, also she could hardly walk and was swaying from side to side,I was sat discussing with my 16yr old daughter what to do when my cat suddenly jumped of the settee and started to have a fit,it was terrible to watch,I really thought she was going to die right there and then,we rushed her to the vets, and he said it looks like she has been poisoned, she is now on a drip and they are doing lots of tests,Im only on benifits but luckily I have enough money saved for christmas to pay for her care(£200) as he said they can not let you pay in instalments anymore as so many people didnt pay they have ruined it for everybody else,so if I hadnt had the money he said he would have to insist on putting her down, even paying this money though he wouldnt tell me what chance she has of pulling through,so im just hoping she will be o.k. I really cant imagine why anybody would want to do this though,

It really awful what has happend but you know I would be very careful about accusing your neighbours of doing stuff or reporting them to the RSCPA for something you don't know they have done. Neighbour wars are very bad and smaller things than this can ignite them. If you have any proof that your neighbours have done this then I would go to the police and RSPCA but to be honest I doubt they will be able to do much just because they have threatened to posion the cat. They may just tell you its a civil matter and to consult a solictor. Have you tried talking to your other neighbours to see if they have seen your neighbour do anything? Also if your neighbour has put posion down on HIS land and your cat ate it then unless you can prove he did it just to kill your cat then he could just claim it was to kill rats or something else.
People can get very frustrated when neighbours animals go into their gardens. Not just cats but dogs too. Sadly killing them is a bit of an overreaction.

I'd second mrcols warning... you're assuming he poisoned the other cat, and you're assuming he's poisoned your cat... him being smug could be for any number of reasons. He could have won £10 on the lottery for all you know.
Again proving he purposely set out to harm your cat would be extreemly tricky... I know how upsetting it is as my boy was recently quite poorly - he had high calcium levels - usually a sign of cancer - in his case it turned out to be a type of rat/mouse poison. I have no way of finding out where he ate it (well - where the mouse he no doubt consumed ate it) and I'd never start accusing any of my neighbours of doing it purposely unless I had evidence to the contrary.

I do however hope your mitmot makes a very speedy recovery and can whole heartedly recommend insurance... My cat cost £422 just in tests to eliminate cancers etc... £200 may not be cheap but it could easily be a LOT worse!

  • just a quick update ,Ive just phoned the vets to see how she is an the vet is in a meeting for the next hour, but the receptionist and nurse went to have a look at her for me and they said she is still on the drip but looks comfortable, they said she looks much the same but comfy, but said that I really need to call back and speak to the vet,I may just be being to hopefull but I felt better after the call, and am more hopefull now that she is going to get better.
Ive spoke to a family friend who is a police officer and they have advised me to wait to see what has poisoned her,if its something suspisous then I should think about reporting him as even if it cannot be proven, it could deter him doing it in the future to my, or somebody else's cat. just knowing an alligation has been made and having the police knock on his door may make him think twice, thank you all for your kind and supportive reply's
  • Good to hear that your cat is picking up. Deliberate poisoning is actually very rare and very hard to prove without cctv or something. Accidental poisoning bevause your neighbour uses a chemical that isn't cat safe and doesn't think / care about it is more common. Rat bait, weedkiller, anti-freeze, slugbait are all very common chemicals that a cat owner may be more careful about. The most common causes of poisoning are human medications - cats are very sensitive to aspirin for example - 1 aspirin will kill a cat - rat bait, lillies and other plants. Difficult to identify without a liver or kidney biopsy and expensive. If your cat is OK, just keep a more careful look out but deliberate animal cruelty through poisoning is not that common. Fingers crossed.

Does your neighbour have a nice flowery garden? I hear weed killer is good for plants give them a spray!;) or invite neighbour round for pot of tea? Laxitives are effective:p Then who will be acting like the cat that got the cream :rotfl::D

Seriously though, hope your cat pulls through. I would go to the police though about both incidents. Surely he is putting the poison in his garden if it is him?

Sorry to hear about your kitty & I hope she pulls thru.I lost mine in Sept & it's hard to get over. The fact it's antifreeze suggest's deliberate act & not eating rat pellets by accident.

I hope your cat will be ok :( I don't understand why someone can be so cruel to a defensless animal, cat's aren't particularly one of my favourite animals my brother has 2 I'm alergic to cat fur but I'll still give them a stroke :) But I wouldn't hurt a cat just because it was there :(

If you want I'll come round with my gun and shove it up his back side and scare him a bit like he's scared your cat :(
