Further to posts 106 and 117, make all recurring credit charges unenforceable unless a written and signed paper acknowledgement is in the hands of the company making the debit from your account. Stopping and reclaiming these payments is bad enough for a legitimate company. If you have inadvertantly been scammed it is a nightmare.0

Lets have a simple ISA style Pension saving scheme. You save from your GROSS salary, but cannot withdraw or buy an Annuity until you are at least 60. Simple, cheap and you can see what its REALLY worth anytime!0

To add to post 263, it is more often than not people in this lower income bracket who end up claiming benefits and income support, even WITH the Inc Tax break, so wouldn't it be better to tax everyone the same? 20% is 20% - whatever the income, so if its 20% of £12k or 20% of £1.2m the ratio is fair and those who earn more still pay more. I would not feel so bad about people taking from the system if I knew they had put into it, otherwise I might as well move them into my spare room and feed and clothe them!:money: Dedicated disciple of MoneySavingExpert.com and Savvy MoneySaver :A

The 1st thing Government NEED to do is Listen to "the people"
If one is out of work or long term sick, HOW CAN THEY AFFORD CARS, or SKY tv.
I do not have either.
My GP, and Head of Practice, and 2 more SPECIALISTS, have stated, I can no longer work, But ,the Job Centre, says different.:money:I worked for 35 yrs as Auxiliary Nurse.
Are the Job Centres calling ME, or ALL of those specialists Liars.0 -

Stop foreign workers from receiving family allowance for children not living in Great britain with them - they send the money home and this is a disgrace as it is meant for children living here.
It would also be an idea to pay Family Allowance for only the first 2 children - responsible parents limit their families to what they can afford.
Also the OAP Heating Allowance is paid as at a date in September - I received an allowance for my Mother after she had died on 11th October a few years ago and when I queried this they would not take it back! My Mother was living in a Care Home and those residents do not need heating allowance as the cost of heating is included in the horrendous fees. Checking on that would safe further money for the government0 -
Allow registered charities to reclaim all VAT paid. At present charities have to pay VAT on almost all costs other than staff and rent. In January VAT will be increased by 2.5%. Because charities can not reclaim this VAT paid (unlike most businesses) this is a tax on the 'Big Society'.
(Suggestion with credit to the poster who suggested VAT should be reclaimable by mountain rescue charities - i'd say all charities should be able to reclaim VAT - after all they must be doing some good in society or they wouldn't be registered charities)0 -
Martin is still the authority on which banks share the same FSCS guarantee.
So if you are worried about banks going bust, you can make sure that you don't put say 35000 quid (soon to be 100000€/~£80000) with (eg) Halifax and a further 35000 with Bank of Scotland, and they went bust then you would lose half your money because they are in fact the same company.
So make them print a shared FSCS list on every statement, branch counter, every web page which is customer specific (which has to be logged in to).
About a week should be long enough to implement it0 -
Children & alcohol
1. Raise age to buy alcohol to 21 (it works in usa)
2. Stop "all" supermarkets selling very cheap alcohol thus encouraging excessive drinking !!
3. Close "all" local shops eg. Bargain booze
4. Make it "difficult" for teenagers to buy alcohol not easy like it is now !!
5. "only" pubs to sell alcohol......think about it, it will work.

Make bank directors personally responsible for bank liabilities.
Like they do in Brazil.
They didn't really have a crunch in Brazil, because they had largely not indulged in irresponsible or over fancy lending. Funny that.0
