  • The Student Loans Company have shocking customer service and records managment, which means it can take months, or years, and dozens of phonecalls to get your payment information up to date. They claim that they will contact you when you are within 24 months of paying off your loan to arrange ending payments but I know of no-one who received such a letter at that time. As such some people are overpaying for months and months when that money could have been earning interest in a savings account. To incentivise the company to keep people informed about when they are due to finish payments, any overpayments made should not only be paid back in full but with interest at the same rate as the loan, out of the companies profits (the service is outsourced). If they keep their records up to date they keep their profits, if their customer service remains abysmal, they don't. Just like it would be if there was a competitive market in student loans rather than one, bad, option.
  • Find a way to identify builders that deal only in cash and therefore pay little or no tax.

I have met several who manage to avoid home visits from the 'tax man', live in homes worth several hundred thousand pounds, drive Range Rovers, Ferraris, Bentleys etc...children have jet skis, quad bikes...anything they want, yet hardly any tax is paid on the builders' incomes.

The Government is missing out on significant revenue.
  • STOP UNNECESSARY BENEFITS FOR OVER 60s
Why provide free NHS prescriptions, eye tests, travel concessions to people who are mostly working and at the peak of their earning power. Stop automatic winter fuel payments. The well off would have to be hard-faced to claim!

Only sanction spending on things that really matter and that will really make a difference to society - eliminate attrition on dead end projects - govern smarter not harder
  • Although it would be difficult for the UK PM to assume guilt, there should be some distancing from a person under such charges. A country leader involved with prostitutes is already far away from acceptable conduct from a European country leader. Why is it necessary for the women of Italy to demonstrate? Political leaders should show their disapproval too, instead of waiting to see which way the crowds go. The man should be told to resign and get into hiding, where he should be, until the courts can get their act together.

Demand visibility and transparency and stop this gravy train for eu officials only - reward fairly and not by exploiting the taxpayer. Some eu countries really that money rediverting back to them rather than the pockets of the few selfish individuals.
  • Councils should not be allowed to play games when people challenge parking tickets.

When you get a Parking Ticket you can appeal against the ticket and if this is turned down then you have the option to go to The Traffic Appeals Service. You can then lose the right to the discounted rate of the ticket because you dare to appeal. This is wrong you should be able to appeal without losing this option. Some councils let you appeal at the discounted rate but some don't.

Some Councils through personal experience let the appeals process roll on so that a good percentage of people give up and pay up at the discounted or lower cost.

When the council loses then they should be made to pay the equivalent amount of money they were asking to the victim. This would then cut out this dishonest behaviour by Councils of letting things run their course in the hope the victim will lose their nerve.
Then at the very last second the council sends a letter cancelling the parking ticket.

This would not affect drivers who are in the wrong of course.

I was a delivery driver and had numerous dishonest tickets given to me that had an affect on my life for weeks causing me stress

  • If we rail so much against !!!!!philes (rightly so), why do UK censors permit the film 'American Beuty' to be sold openly in Video/DVD format. And why does the BBC show the film on TV? I request the Censors ban the film now. The BBC should be checked into to see who encouraged the film showing - maybe their computers should also be checked.

SIMPLIFICATION OF THE CURRENT OVERLY COMPLEX CONVOLUTED (Labour enforced) SYSTEMS WILL ENSURE THAT WHATEVER MONEY THERE IS, IS FOCUSED ON THE RIGHT THINGS AND USED EFFICIENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY. THE MORE BRANCHES OFF THE MAIN TRUNK THE MORE FREQUENT SIPHONING OFF OF FUNDS - BY THE TIME YOU REACH THE END - THERE'S NOTHING LEFT.
  • Could you investigate why it is that the WSussex council intends spending £81million on replacing working lamp posts in this county? It is nice to have the latest gadgets, but can''t it wait until the recovery has occurred? Nearby counties are spending silimar amounts, by the way, which seems like grossly foolish mis-spending.
