Hey Guys!
Wonder if you can help me, im after a courier that would send packages of length of up to 165 cm x 60cm x 30cm. to give youa better idea, its basically a car bumper, however im struggling to find a service that would do it cheap as it only wieghs about 4kg or less. so its really light but long. so far iv found parcelforce that can deliver it for £12-15 if i bring the sides of the bumper in slightly to fit within there limits. however i dont want to bend the bumper, id rather send it just well wrapped up.
does anyone know of any service that would do cheap but long packages? or any one who would allow special circumstances? e.g dhl would let in trhough as its very light... or something0 -
About my parcel to Australia.
Finally ended up using Parcelmachine.com as they offer a 5% discount when you register which made them cheaper than anybody else.
Packed and booked the collection on Wednesday at 11.20 am, spent about 10 mins printing off and signing all the customs declarations, did a bit of ironing, had a leisurely lunch, DHL guy knocked on the door about 13:10. So no hanging around watching daytime TV. Provided you book before 12 noon can get same day collection it seems!
Tracked everything via DHL using the Airwaybill number, package was on a plane to East Midlands by mid afternoon, then out to Heathrow that evening and then Thursday morning on the plane to Brisbane, where it arrived the following morning.
Booking process took about 5 mins and paid by Paypal, what a doddle.0 -
As someone who lives in the highlands I have found that sometimes its worth going direct rather than resellers. I sent an item the other day and was quoted. Parcel monkey - £15.99 (through DHL) - parcel2go - 14.99 (through DHL as well) both these only had £50 compensation as standard I need up to £100 and they wanted another £2.50 to up the compensation.
I then got a quote directly with DHL and it was 12.99 including £100 compensation which was also cheaper than parcelforce
So after you have got a quote from a reseller its worth checking the company directly
Thanks for that. When I called DHL for a collection, they gave me a higher price than resellers-maybe because I live in the UK mainland instead of the highlands?0 -
I have found a loophole that these companies use.
I sent a parcel with parcel2go and FEDEX which arrived broken although the packaging was extensive and included hard board AND polystyreene.
After many emails and detailed images from the client as the parcel was unpacked and the damage found, fedex simply responded with the one liner " the packaging was insufficient" and this was shortly followed by parcel2go who's reply was " the parcel was signed for as received in good condition.
Akthough FEDEX terms require the parcel to be keept for inspction the client tells me he has had NO requests from FEDEX to view it even after 6 weeks of waiting.
I pointed out to both that there is no way that you can inspect the parcel BEFORE signing and that there is ONLY 1 way to sign, received in good condiiton!
There is NO WAY to indicate that the parcel has not been inspected for damage.
If you do not want to sign for the parcel as received in good condition this is treated as a refussal and the parcel returned.
Even IF you sign on the digital displays the word UNCHECKED this signifies that you have signed for the parcel and at that very POINT you accept ALL responsibility for it. Once you find out that it has been tossed around and handled badly the bottom line is Tough sh*t. you signed to accept it in the condition it was delivered. NOT the condition it was sent.
I even paid EXTRA insurance and this has been flatly refused as an insurance claim.
SO I am NEVER sending anything with either FEDEX or PArcel2go as they simply dont give a toss:mad:
Is there really no way to hold these companies to their responsibilities??
Any advice would be appreciated.

When I sent with parcel2go using DHL, I submitted a claim with relevant pics etc... and a lot of notes. I had 6 pages worth
After 8 weeks, I got my money back. Maybe your best bet is not to use FedEx as I suppose DHL are bigger than FedEx and more popular, so want to protect their revenue/reputation. BTW, my item was broken from the inside, not the outside. The outside of the item was completely fine.I showed them pics of a broken board that would cost €65 to replace!

Parcel companies say that if there is no obvious damage from the outside yet the item is broken inside it MUST be insufficent packing. So it follows if the package was obviously damged on the outside your recipient would have signed for the parcel as damaged. As he didnt sign for it as damaged it was insufficient packing - easy isnt it!!;)
I gave my views on insurance a few posts ago. Its wasted money with regard to damage in transit unless the parcel arrives squashed flat.0 -
there seems to be a concerted effort to remove the responsibilities of the carriers while handling the parcel in transit.
The contents was damaged from the inside and is not impossible to repair.
The point that pee me off is that you can not sign "received without prejudice" on the digital displays couriers shove in your face before you get a glimpse of the shipment and that it is therefor impossible to assert your rights as reciever to hold the company responsible
Would without prejudice work??0 -

My item was indeed impossible to repair as it had a massive crack through the powerboard and I got my £50 back after having 6 pages of "evidence"+paypal invoices, plus buyer's comment for the claim0 -

"If the parcel is undamaged on the outside and it was packed well enough how can it be damaged on the inside? How do we know it wasnt damaged when packed and it is an insurance fraud. therefore unless the parcel is damaged on the outside and signed for as damaged there is no claim"0
